Change the personal info thing in the community guidelines

Community Guidelines: "Keep personal info private.
For safety reasons, don't give out any information that could be used for private communication - such as real last names, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, links to social media sites or websites with unmoderated chat.“

So you're allowed to put your real first name on Scratch? I think the ST should encourage kids not to reveal their names, period. First names can be just as easy to identify people with as last names, especially if the name is unusual.

For that reason. I think the ST should change it to this:
”For safety reasons, don't give out any information that could be used for private communication - such as real names, etc."

Explain if there are 2 Jacobs or 10 Richards here. Note that many names of people are common names.

But still, what if your name is something really weird, like…
*looks up on google*
…Abbot?

If there aren't many people with your name it's easier to find you. Still not as easy as a last name, but still.
I support this, it's not like it'll take much effort (you know, removing one word and all).

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

If your first name was the same as an famous person, wouldn't the google search just lead to that famous person?

Many people are famous, and it's sorta hard to track someone down if their name was Taylor or Justin.

I know that people have unusual names sometimes though, and sometimes when you search an unusual name you will find “What Does That Name Mean?” sites rather than social media accs.

"don't give out any information that could be used for private communication"

in the rare case someone's first name would uniquely identify them, the guidelines say don't give it out

as always, if you come across something that violates the guidelines, report it

Yeah. On Google, Justin mostly has results of Justin Bieber, Donald has most results of Donald Trump, Miley mostly shows results of Miley Cyrus, and all are common names (I'm not sure of Miley but I've heard of other people called Miley).

yeah, this article came up first searching on donald, showing that public figures will dominate the name space for any single name over regular people. that means there should not be any risk of sharing a first name except in the rarest of cases.

I don't think first names should be disallowed - as others have said, some first names are common or even the names of celebrities.
Besides that, it might be a more convenient way of referring to people. My username is “kenny2scratch”; that takes a few more seconds to type than “Ken”.

No support.

There are millions of people with the same first name. There is no way someone can identify a random person just by a random.

Check out Life Raft Survival, my new advanced sandbox survival game with crafting, building, transportation, weather events, tropical storms, and more!

In the game you're stranded at sea after a mysterious crash and must survive in an unforgiving tropical island environment collecting resources and crafting, in an attempt to finally be rescued.

It depends on if you have any other accounts with that name. If you never reveal your name, and you're the ONLY one with that name, searching it up will not most likely shows results about you, and the results will be autocorrected.

It might not just show people with that name, but also companies and their products, films, books, etc.

I guess, but I still feel like there's not much reason not to change this. Like I said, it's removing a whole one word.

I guess this could clarify some misunderstanding, but still, it's just one word. The CG states, “don't give out any information that could be used for private communication.” Last names are given as an example, but it also covers first names as well.

Oh, and BTW, the phrase “such as” does not mean it represents all examples that contribute to a term. The phrase is used to show some example.

It's just like, “many landforms such as valleys and mountains have this blah blah blah”. A river is a landform, why is it not included in the sentence?

Take note of that.
