Why are Recolors Allowed?
but sometimes recolors are used to ‘steal’ people's projects, by recoloring one small thing and saying its allowed because of the CGs allow itbut it still is mean to the creatorIf someone says “please don't recolor” they're limiting that tiny aspect of creativity, and that's against the Community Guidelines. After all, what if someone does want to recolour it? They may be falsely told that they can't, even though they are 100% allowed to do so.it could be offensive if a user speicfiically said ‘please don’t recolor'I don't see how recoloring is offensive but scribbling…? That is messing up someone's hard work, that would be offensive to me.A remix is valid as long as something is changed. I don't see how Recoloring or tearing up a virtual drawing would be considered offensive.Oh, so does that mean scribbling over someone's hard work is a ‘valid remix’ or deleting everything is a ‘valid remix’? They're allowed because if any change is made to a project, then it counts as a valid remix.
Umm… WHAT! Isn't like they are changing the original project. They can change ANYTHING and it doesn't change ANYTHING in the original. Let Scratchers make their own projects.
It still counts as a vaild remix, the only unvaild remixs are:
Adding blocks that are not attached to a script.
Not doing anything
Also, why would someone not give credit? They just need to download their remix, Upload it to the scratch editor, share it and then they will get reported. Plus, If you want to delete the file, it will just take more time.
And, how did you find the project the user did not give credit on?
Even adding a small dot in the art is a “Remix”. Doing anything besides the stuff list above is a remix.

Why are Recolors Allowed?
It's allowed because of the license Scratch uses that says that people are allowed to use someone's work under the license and modify it.

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

Why are Recolors Allowed?
Hi, if your quoting a lot of quotes then please snip it. -snip-
Otherwise, all that you have said is true. Adding a small dot is still a valid remix any change is a valid remix so that is why recolors are allowed.

What exactly does “modifying” mean in the eyes of the ST?
Is adding this:
in the project editor enough to count as a “modification”?
Is putting a tiny dot in the corner of a costume a “modification”?
Is dragging the scripts around in the project editor a “modification”???
Is adding this:
when green flag clicked

I would say no, the remixer should change something that would make it partially their own. What exactly does “modifying” mean in the eyes of the ST?

What about changing the pen size from 5 to 6? Is that a “modification”???
Is changing this:

to this:
when green flag clicked
broadcast [message v]
when I receive [message v]

a “modification”???
What about changing
change [variable v] by (-1)
to
set [variable v] to ((variable) - (1))
??? Is that a “modification”???
I know I'm just ranting by now, but I want to know how much work you need to do to make a “modification”!

Why are Recolors Allowed?
It's not like the remixer is scribbling over the If they're literally doing nothing other than turning the recolored sprite into a mess of colors, that would be considered disrespectful.original art, I don't see a problem scribbling all over the art if that's what they would like to spend their valuable time doing.
And they're not allowed if someone decides to recolor just to annoy or harass the user.
And I don't really see how recoloring a project would ‘harass’ the user.
Gone.

Why are Recolors Allowed?
I would say the modification would have to change something visually about the project (unless the remix is making the same program with a different coding style. This would change the code more than a little bit). In my opinion, changing pen size is allowed, but the others would not really change anything. -snip-
I agree. Can we just close this topic? I think we get the answer.

I think a good rule of thumb is the modification must be noticeable. What exactly does “modifying” mean in the eyes of the ST?

I agree, we're getting a little derailed. Can we just close this topic? I think we get the answer.

Why are Recolors Allowed?
We allow for recolors because they're seen as creative remixes - in this case, changing colors around to give a different look to a project.
I can tell this going to turn into a war against recolors so I'm going to close the thread. Leave the recolor remixes alone unless miscrediting (which is claiming to own whole art when it is a recolor) is involved.
