I think so too. I'm going to create a new thread that's discussed a little more calmly to tell the ST our opinion. Anyone want to help?
Sure. I think we need somewhere without all the flaming. :)
Yes, I'll follow the thread to keep up-to-date with it's progress.

I think that they ST should keep the “tips” button, because it is probably really useful for new scratchers, I just think that they should put it back, but keep the tips button.

The flame war will just move - we might as well stay on this topic. This one does pretty good job of summing up the important points.

Parents and educators don't want kids to have access to online discussion sites—the having of scratch a forum already stopped many schools (like mine, for example) from using scratch.
To close this gateway, scratch eventually plans to phase out the forums—first by removing the links to the forums in the Scratch new section of the front page, then removing the link to the forums on the navbar, and eventually, probably when scratch 3.0 is fully released, the scratch forum will be either removed, or changed (for example made only for educator accounts—another feature brought over by tynker and alike, for the same reasons)

tl;dr: scratch plans to remove the forums to make the site more like tynker and code.org

Sorry to burst your conspiracy bubble - but this is not true. There is no plan to shut down the forums.

And if parents and educators are concerned about online discussion - there is a lot more of it happening here on Scratch than what happens in the forums. We have conversations happening on profiles, studios, and projects. Conversations in the forums are actually more restricted than other locations on Scratch. Why would they be interested in stopping conversation in the forums rather than elsewhere on Scratch?
Yeah. Scratch does not plan to remove Forums. It's their fault if we can't get the help we need, and also their fault if we can't offer solutions to those who need help. They know it's wrong to remove the forums.

They aren't removing the forums, they're removing the button on the header.

Yeah, forums aren't the only place to comment. If that is the problem, it would be about all of scratch, which is unreasonable
Yes! It was just a conspiracy.

I agree. My opinion: It is easy enough to get to them from the footer, and some users have a link to the forums on their profiles, but is easier to just click the Discuss button. The Discuss button might make the header too big in other languages, but the Scratch Team could make the search bar a little smaller or move some of the items over. It would compromise both ideas. What does everybody else think?
Isn't that what this suggestion already is? To make the search bar a little smaller to add discuss back. I even had an comprise for languages where it would be tiny in (which is in the op, I don't feel like typing it for the 5th time).

What exactly does this accomplish? Things can just get heated again there. I also don't really see how it is needed since the op is pretty much just a quote of mine and saying to keep calm, however it won't stop people from heating up the thread.

Scratch team members saying that there are no plans to remove the forums is dis-ingenious at best

If the forums only attracts 1% of Scratchers - how will that % not rapidly diminish when it goes from a header button to a footnote on a sub-page?

The chances of new Scratchers finding it are very slim.

This must know this to be most likely to happens - it doesn't require a data scientist to predict this is most likely outcome

Lets accept that no out-right false information is being communicated to Scratchers but there have been many valid suggestions for a compromise between a front page header link and a sub-page footer link.that seemingly are being completed ignored.

Its just presented as the only way for the future.

This cannot be right - unless the current inevitable outcome is the one that is being sought

if I'm completely wrong and its just simple muck-up - everyone makes mistakes - I apologise - but I don't think it is

If it is a mistake - please take action to correct/ameliorate the effects to show us that you value our opinions as much as you did when the forums were launched.

Agreed. The ST doesn't exactly seem to care about the scratcher's opinions. There is a lot of bias in the banning system, as well as not enough Scratcher-to-ST communication. To be honest, scratch is going downhill, mainly because of false/unfair bans, but also because of stuff like this.

Let's please keep this on topic. We're talking about accessing the forums. If you have an issue with account bans, please use the Contact Us button to discuss it with the Scratch Team directly.

@SimpleScratch - The website is a continual work-in-progress and discussions continue. There are other access paths into the Forums besides the footer link - including a link on the new Tips page. There are more discussions on-going around adding other access paths in places that make sense.

I support so much I can't even put it into words.
But I can use reasons!
1. It would make it so much easier to get the the forums
2. It would help lots of new scratchers
3. THE RE-ADDITION WOULD BE SO COOL!!!

I'm getting pretty angry at the people on this topic thread I can't put it into words!

Please explain your reasoning. Support ticks don't convince the Scratch Team.

Many people don't like the removal of the “discuss” from the toolbar, so how about a compromise? Scratch can have an option of adding discuss back into the toolbar via account settings.
