Looks normally like this:

I support this if, when you get a new message on a project (which I will call project1), the stacked list for comments on project1 automatically expands so you can see the message.

At other times though, that would not happen.

So if that's the case, support!

Sometimes, it's hard to practice this when you've been on Scratch for so long and scrolling down one time might just bring you down to the bottom instantly. Probably better if you can know who commented on the comment so you know who has actually participated in the comment like,

“RandomGuy replied to your comment on RandomGuy's profile..” and 3 more replies by ‘Scratcher’, ‘Scratcher’. ↓

oh my goodness would i love this! it would also be halpful if maybe it had studio invites stacked like so

“Scratcher201 invited you to curate AE STUDIO and 3 more studios…” view all

or something like that. idk. but this would be so helpful to clean up messages.

I'd say it'd be best if the project message while collapsed would show only the count of messages under that project.
