sorry for not being active!
event one is out; we have to make a game (about dusk) without using looks blocks.
to get an idea of what stuff we can't use:
- the show/hide blocks
- the switch costume/backdrop blocks
- effect blocks
- size blocks
- layers
i guess for starters we'd have to:
- keep sprites single-costume
- keep the game single-layer
the first thing i thought of was a game like “flower.” if you guys aren't aware of that game, you basically control the wind and push a flower petal around. rather than go with a fast-paced game, i think having a slower-paced, relaxed game would work better for this event (for dusk, too).
what were you guys thinking of?
That's an interesting idea!

Let's brew up ideas!
Perhaps a game where you explore a dungeon, collect keys, and try not to be seen by robots!
Also, you could have a time limit, and you would have to get to the end before midnight!
I guess it's not very slow-paced, but then, I like fast paced games.
All you have to do for the objects is create an extra sprite, and make it stamp!
The player could draw a black line everywhere, so when he went over the key it would go away.
You could generate the dungeon using a list, a sprite, and more stamps.
You would have to get to the trapdoor at the end of the level.
Want me to make a basic wall engine?

I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE about a few things.
1. THE GAME MUST BE ABOUT YOUR TIME OF DAY.
Aly said this on discord, which brings me to my second point:
2. Crystollo said, on discord, word for word, “@dusk Could all members be more active on the discord? Envury, Kiloz and I will be looking into ensuring everyone is as active as necessary and replacing those who are not. (I know some of you are already very active and trying your best so dw)”. PLEASE, it would help us a lot to
a. have everyone active on discord
b. NOT have you kicked off the team.
Thanks guys, sorry if I came off as a bit rude in that message.

Anyways, here is my idea:
We have a colored background made from pen, which slowly gets darker to until it is all black. We also have a foreground, but that's all just for decoration and it doesn't matter. The game will be to do something before the time runs out, and it becomes night.
In addition, no matter what we do, I think we should have a black box/outline on the edge of the screen, just so that we can use move blocks to make sprites “disappear”.
Maybe the game could be you have to catch fireflies? I feel like with the perfect music it would be really calming

Fun idea!
I have a HUGE box of music in my Documents folder.
But I'm not sure how you could make good pen fireflies that could move around realistically.
I was thinking, maybe a game where you had to navigate through a forest and avoid things like rocks and monsters. Maybe the terrain would be harder to see if you were closer to it.
I have the perfect music.

good pen fireflies
sine would work
also while i think the black box would work, it wouldn't look very aesthetically pleasing and isn't a very creative way to get around the look block restriction. i think avoiding using show/hide is the best thing.
maybe we can combine the firefly idea with the flower idea and basically guide a firefly through a (either procedurally generated, or level-based) side-scrolling (pen or clone?) world, where the objective is to light up and bring life and color to the areas?

That sounds AWESOME. I don't know how we would implement dusk into it though. Possibly you would have to bring darkness? Because otherwise it almost sounds like a daybreak project.

Iamity said he would ask Crystollo about our replacment for Australia123. Because right now we are at a severe (not so severe, but just saying that so we can get a replacement faster) disadvantage.

Sorry for clogging up the thread
arcode had the idea of instead of using the black box, using a replicated part of the background. - Novakitty

Maybe to combine several aforementioned ideas, plus include dusk, it could be set at dusk, and the task has to be completed before the light is gone? (I'm not entirely sure how we'd accomplish this just offering ideas…. Maybe with pen? )

Ok. How about this. A side scrolling level, where you have to navigate a bee to different flowers across the level, before the dusk is gone. The dusk could be really pretty if it had the right pen colors.
Also, I found this pen project (it's in my favorites somewhere), where you can make TRANSPARENT pen. Yeah. So we could bathe the whole screen in a VERY light dusk color that gets darker until it's night. I think that would be pretty cool. If we use auto generated terrain, then we could use that formula for the transparent light.
Just an idea, but especially with perfect music I think it would look awesome.
Sorry for mistakes. I'm typing on a phone.

this! i forgot to mention it would be set at dusk. my idea would be that it would scroll at a set pace, and as you move through the level it gradually moves from sunset to dark.
do you guys have other ideas? everyone seems to think of this as a solid idea so if no one objects we might start with this and add ideas to it as we work on it.
also, have you guys seen xyz-? i haven't seen them anywhere, and we need all the activity from team members we can get to make this event a success.

Yeah I like it. Before the time runs out and the sun sets.Asterix and I were talking and maybe you are a firefly and have to collect light orbs or something before the sun sets? But then it won't be a set pace. I also think it should be endless - check the discord.
I am talking to Crystollo about -xyx and a replacement for Australia. Also novakitty, can you get a discord account?

I'm sorry but I don't think I'd be allowed to leave Scratch. (Meaning I don't think I'll be able to go on Discord.)

Okay guys, I actually have a really good idea for a game, which goes as follows:
- You are a firefly. The way you move is a bit like flappy bird, except you can use the arrow keys to change the direction you are moving. It is also not a scrolling game.
- Similar to Don't touch the spikes, you have to collect items, which give you points. These items could be orbs of light, which you can eat. As soon as you eat the orb, a new one will appear, and you will get a point.
- But, the darkness is creeping in, and you have to get as many points as you can before darkness falls, similar to tiny wings.
The score would have to be shown as a raw variable though…

interesting idea, arcode! this is definitely more of a “game” than the idea i thought of. do you guys want to do more of a game or more of an “experience?”
i just don't know if twitch / fast-paced gameplay would work well with the restrictions and the theme of dusk.
what do you guys want to do? are you more on board with arcode's idea or mine? we'll go with whichever idea garners more votes, and if it's close we'll use elements from the less popular idea as well.
strawpoll vote!
