This is because their servers are going to be undergoing a lot of use, because they are participating in Hour of Code, and a lot of new scratchers will be coming. This is also why they take down the explore sections sometimes.

It's only temporary while the servers are being overloaded with tons of new Scratchers.

The site will be flooded with new people, so it has to be simple, partially because you don't want to confuse the new people, and second the site would be less laggy with this search engine.
