Tesla mastered that over 100 years ago. He was going to set up a system to distribute electricity to the entire town wirelessly, but his financier pulled out at the last minute when he realised that there would be no way of controlling who could use the electricity, so there would be no way of charging for it.

Tesla also made a device which took electricity from the air. He often spoke about the fact that there is electricity everywhere, you just have to have a way of accessing it.

Oh but there are, unless you're talking about something on a larger scale than I see ATM. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 wirelessly charge (not sure about the N10), and cases exist to convert other devices into wirelessly chargeable ones. Even a fairly cheap electric toothbrush now can be found with inductive charging. It's not everywhere, but it's in the consumer markets now for sure. I also remember seeing somewhere that scientists/inventors created a system so that you could wirelessly charge an EV just by driving it up into the garage. There was a charging coil in the floor and another to receive the energy in the car, meaning that as long as it is in the garage it gets charged. Pretty sweet IMO. Could we maybe see something like that in the roads of the future? No need for batteries that last hours, since you can just get charged up while on the road? Unfortunately I think it would probably expend more power to drive than it would gain, but it's still a cool idea.
