My donator ranks are the equivalent of $7, $15, $32 and $44 (just introduced) or so. $30 is generally quite expensive, especially for servers with a low player base. I had to wait a few months until I had a player base of about 800 people before I started receiving just the $7 donations. The servers with hugely priced ranks just do that because more people play on that server.

You can get all passive mob disguises, /fly, /heal and some other pretty cool stuff that I can't remember off the top of my head for less than $15 on my server too, so no, they don't supply ‘nearly nothing’.
