Has being on the Scratch Team been your lifelong dream? You may have to wait a little longer. Here are some of the requirements for joining the Scratch Team:
  • Must be 18 or older
  • For some jobs, must be able to commute to the MIT Media Lab @ Cambridge, MA
Also, the jobs they have open right now all have to do with advanced programming, so you'd better know your stuff.

Sorry if this let you down, but maybe it's be a great job opportunity when you grow up!

i have grown as a person. and ive grown, literally. none of my posts from before 2022 represent me accurately.

I don't think the 18+ rule is very fair. If you're just volunteering your time to help Scratch, why should they care if your 2 as long as you know what you're doing?

Because they need a way to verify your age, and some people are moderators who may deal with inappropriate content. See This about the issue.

I'm just saying that you shouldn't judge people based on their age, but by their skill level. I do agree though that it is overall a good idea to not accept minors for such an important job, but still; you don't have to be 18+ to know how to program.

Depends on what you program. For example, can a kid create OS X out of a series of number.

Steve Jobs did it when he was 21. And, no offense or anything, I don't think the Scratch Team is making any complex operating systems or anything.

but labor laws,

anyways, there are several volunteer programs that the ST wouldn't care about your age (sci, veggie and I were Scratch Wiki admins at like 12 or 13) and I'm running a MediaWiki bot there but if you're working for money then labor laws

Well, i think the 18+ rules is there because; 1.you can't work for a job on scratch if you are 18 and lower, you can not work! 2. the jobs that are left include very advanced programming and if a kid joined, it would be very hard for them. also, they would have to pretend they are adults! o_o

Isn't the Scratch team volunteers though? You can volunteer for something if you are younger than 18. And yes, it would be hard for a kid to do it, but if you are determined enough, you can do it. And, I don't know what you mean with the last sentence.

Yes, labor laws point out that you must 18+ to work and get paid by a company, which scratch is (NOTE: they are Trademarked)

My “..” and “…” are not spelling mistakes, it means that they are ways of telling someone that I can continue more about it and that the sentence isn't ended the best way. I like putting new indents and lines so I can split up what I am talking about.

Ohh…. well then I look stupid now. I thought the ST was all volunteers. But, that means it is an even better job! Even if I have to wait a few years to be able to do it…

Which labor laws? As a general rule, the Fair Labor Standards Act from the US Department of Labor sets 14 years of age as the minimum age for employment, and limits the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16. See http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/youthlabor/agerequirements.htm

I've always wanted to join the scratch team, but even if I was 18+ (and I'm nowhere near it) I wouldn't be able to because I live in the UK.

There are ST members who are located in different locations too, so it doesn't mean you can't be a ST member
