Posting this announcement mainly appears to be a way for the Scratch Team to share how they plan to approach browser compatibility. I don't exactly see any differences to how the Scratch Team has been handling browser compatibility, though; the browsers they list are the same as the ones they've been officially supporting for the past several years, if I remember correctly. Maybe they are just sharing more information on their design philosophy as to why they are only supporting these browsers?

I'm not expecting any major changes to happen as a result of this. At the very least, it serves as further justification as to which browsers Scratch officially supports. In other words, if you are using something like Internet Explorer ( ), Opera, or Brave, and you encounter a bug with Scratch while using one of these browsers, then the Scratch Team may not prioritize fixing the bug for that browser. They will officially put effort toward making Scratch compatible for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari specifically.

There's a very small change: previously, browser versions released in the last 3 years were supported, as can be seen on the old FAQ page. The announcement says they will now only support versions released in the last 30 months (2.5 years). This isn't a big difference, so it probably won't change much in practice.
