Task 7 CWC: The Moody Mug

The chalk board of rules strictly warned that drinks containing magic of the tide must be served cold.

Jetty silently wiped down the counter, resting her arms on the cool tabletop. It glistened like the faraway waters she used to wish to swim in. Each breath has a sharp sting but still each breath on the surface she is grateful for. She listens to the sound of rain softly pitter-pattering in the background. Maybe… maybe if she could just take a little breath of the water… she blinked and found herself standing at the door. She shook her head and returned to behind the counter. She should stay grounded. She told herself firmly. Right here where she belonged. On the surface. She coughs a little. Then she hears footsteps and pulls out a cup and a saucer, prepared. The bell dinged cheerfully and a teenager with their face buried in their faded, green jumper stepped in. They looked up and spoke.
“Hello. My name is Kailani. I heard that you make brews that have sea magic in them… am I correct?” They asked, their long brown hair coating their head.
“Yes…” I responded calmly. I looked at their eyes. My look asked them, are you sure? They nodded.
“Is it possible to have it warmed up? Savour the warm moments?” They wondered.
“The tide magic brew must be as cold as it comes. You must be prepared for the chilling weather of the salty world.” Jetty said calmly. She filled up the cup and then turned away. She took her bowl of sea water and took a deep breath of it in. The oxygen rich water comforted her. Then she turned back and breathed it all out into the water. It glistened refreshingly and she passed it to Kailani who now looked very sceptical.
“Trust me.” She whispered and dipped a finger into the water. She felt the water coming to her, calling her back but she resisted firmly. Someday. She told herself. Then she showed the finger to Kailani. The skin had turned slick and had almost absorbed some water. It was perfectly adapted. Suddenly then it changed back and Jetty urged Kailani to hurry.
“Once you drink this, you must go to the sea. Answer its call. Good luck.” She said softly and Kailani nodded, smiled, and drunk it. They felt strange… a tingle was spreading up their legs. They stood up and started searching their pockets for money.
“Just go! There’s no time to waste!” Jetty ushered and then Kailani sprinted and dived into the sea. They felt at home. Safe. They will be protected there.

Back at the cafe, Jetty smiled to herself. Someday, old friends. Someday. But for now the rules shall be followed and the tide shall be sturdy… she looked up at the chalkboard that watched over the bar.
