Howdy hey! I'm Lune, she/her, your friendly not-exactly-neighborhood math nerd and writer with as many Broadway tunes stuck in my head as there are books on my shelf. Most days, you can find me in the EST/EDT timezones, curled up on the couch with the electric blanket turned up on high!

Reading has been a part of my life for pretty much as long as I can remember! From the first Harry Potter books to Project Hail Mary and Six of Crows, I've always loved immersing myself in the pages of a book. My all-time favorite series is The Hunger Games— but some of my other favorites include anything by Andy Weir, Divergent, Wings of Fire, The Lunar Chronicles, and the Heartstopper graphic novel series.

With my passion for reading came a passion for writing. The feeling of delving into worlds, whether fantastical or ordinary, of your own creation is a kind of joy that will never get old! I'm currently attempting a paranormal-fantasy novel, but I prefer to work on short poems or flash fiction (which is why I love dailies so much). It's a slow process, but I'm slowly improving, and SWC has much to do with that <3

Math is a more recent love of mine. This past year, numbers and statistics have become a sort of home for me among the stress that is mental health, overwhelming amounts of homework, and just life in general. Unlike life, numbers will always make sense— there's nothing that can't be solved with a little critical thinking and brainpower.

And finally, theater. My journey through theater has stretched a long time, and I've grown a lot through each experience. Last year, I landed my first lead role after years of ensemble, and it was a joy to learn what it was like to fully become a character and build relationships with other cast members onstage and off! My favorite part of it all will always be improv, but each aspect brings me great joy in different ways.

⊹ past experience ⊹

I've spent five sessions with this community so far, and I've loved every moment of it! From my three sessions spent as a camper to my two spent as a co-leader, SWC has given me so much and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.

My past two sessions, Magreal and Xeno-fi, were my first experiences co-leading, and I'm amazed at how much they strengthened my collaboration, communication, and leadership skills. Magreal was a dive into a world I had never really experienced before, improving my organization, accountability, and even just my mindset towards leadership so much in just those two months that I couldn't wait to jump back in the next session. In Xeno-fi, I learned how to take the basics I learned in the previous session to a new level. It not only helped my skills to improve— it let them blossom, as I looked back on earlier mistakes and attempted to prevent them from happening again.

I've also camped in one session each of SPC, WUC, and JWC, along with leading in SDC once and hosting the first (Co)Leader Application Support Center with Kiara and Cat, all of which provided a good amount of leadership knowledge to add to my list <3

As for writing in itself, it's been about 4 years since I started writing, and 2 since my writing began to be comprehensible and entertaining. I know that's not a lot, especially compared to some of the older SWCers out there, but I've learned so much about storytelling, worldbuilding, character development, and even just grammar techniques through those few years. My journey's just begun, so who's to say what's next?

For leadership in real life, I've had a fairly good amount. I've been in a few programs with much younger kids, which helped me a lot with listening and accommodation. I was a parliamentarian in my school's National Junior Honor Society, which helped me with collaboration. I was the president of student council a few years ago, which helped me a learn a lot about communication and creativity, and I tend to take the lead a bit when working on group projects, which has helped me with a bit of everything.

Although I would be honored to be given the opportunity to (co)lead any cabin this session, I do have a few preferences <3

If I'm accepted as leader, I have a few ideas I'd love to bring to life!

gatekeeping my cabin ideas for the moment!! critiquers, no need to note this :D

If I'm chosen to co-lead, I'm open to most anything! Some of my preferred cabins this session would be anything mentioned above, along with Mystery, Poetry, Gothic, Magical Realism, Epistolary, Classics, and Journalism <3 The only cabins I might not prefer would be Horror, Cyberpunk, and Psycho-fi, as I'm not well-versed in these genres and don't tend to prefer their plots! However, my final opinion always relies on the concept, not the genre, so I don't have any truly heavy preferences for co-leading.

As for TCTWNW, it's not my top choice, but I'm open to co-leading it this session! I wouldn't prefer to lead it, though, as I believe my cabin ideas are more suited to a competitive cabin <3

⊹ time management and dedication ⊹

A.

As we all know, time can be quite unpredictable. However, I'm fairly sure that I can promise anywhere from 45 minutes to three hours to SWC every day, whether that's brainstorming, drawing, writing, or designing.

On weekdays, it'll likely be more around one to two hours, as I do have school and won't have access to Scratch during that period. On weekends, typically you can expect somewhere between an hour and three hours— but weekends aren't quite as ‘set’ for me as weekdays are, so I may find myself having much more or much less time to devote to my cabin on certain occasions.

I have a week-long trip just after the deadline, from September 18th to the 25th. I'll be incredibly busy during this time and won't have much access to Scratch— but I should have enough time to do everything I'm required to do and check in around once or twice a day ^^

My timezone will also shift slightly in early November, from EDT to EST, but it's only a one hour change and shouldn't affect much.

B.

Time management has never quite been my strong suit, as I constantly struggle with issues such as procrastination and perfectionism. However, SWC has helped me improve consistently throughout each session (cabin planning tends to put just the right amount of pressure on me to figure out what works best for me), and I've learned many skills to help me keep a healthy balance between life and SWC, while making sure I can get the things I've put on myself to get done for my cabin done as best as I can.

Organization, in the form of to-do lists and (occasionally mental) spreadsheets, helps me stop myself from putting too many things on my to-do list, while also keeping tasks and ideas from becoming too overwhelming for me and my team. Setting deadlines helps me fight off procrastination and get things done as quickly as possible, and setting small rewards keeps demotivation from pinning me down.

⊹ communication and accountability ⊹

When I'm working with others, I tend to take an honest and clearcut approach while trying to help both my teammates and myself balance mental health and the project we're working on!

Clear communication is incredibly important in a leadership setting, and I value it immensely. For this reason, I do my best to be as clear as I can, especially if it's something with a deadline or something crucial to my cabin's success. I prefer to talk through everything with my team, making sure everyone knows what's happening and feels like their ideas are heard.

I try my best to spread out tasks evenly, not taking too many or too few on. However, I don't push for others to take on more than they're capable of— if we have an overwhelming amount of work ahead of us, I'll make sure to take things step by step, seeing who has the time and energy for what.

Of course, no one's communication is without flaws— I sometimes find myself scared to ask for help, not wanting to add more burdens to other people's shoulders. I also find it incredibly hard to let others down, as a chronic people-pleaser. However, in the upcoming session, I hope to give myself a bit of room for assistance! If I find myself feeling unmotivated or stressed for time more than two to three days in a row, I'm determined to remind myself that all of those feelings are human and valid. Everyone experiences them, and everyone needs to ask for help sometimes.

In accountability, I value trust and self care above all else. It takes no small amount of trust to pass on important tasks to another person, and I intend to tackle each one I'm given with tact and care so that our cabin can be the best possible. However, if I run out of time or start to dread the assignment, I'll approach my (co)leaders and ask if there's any way to lighten the load a bit so that I don't let anyone down. I'm determined not to make promises about finishing things that I can't keep, so that we can bring every idea to life in the best way possible.

If another member of my team ends up feeling similarly, I'll ask them what things they need reassigned or need help with and spread those evenly between the rest of the team. I'll make sure to break down the rest step by step for that member and pitch in a bit to make it easier to accomplish! If one of my (co)leaders doesn't mention being low on time or feeling stressed but still isn't completing the jobs given to them, I'll first sprinkle some gentle reminders throughout our cabin planning in case they simply forgot. If this doesn't work, I'll ask them if they need any help and/or when we can expect the tasks to be done.

Although completing tasks efficiently is important, mental health is something that should always, always be prioritized, and I will do my best to implement that belief into my cabin planning.

⊹ scenarios ⊹

Scenario D:

Considering I myself sometimes struggle with motivation and finding time to do everything, especially as a camper when looking at in-cabin activities, I don't believe that forcing activity or increasing the amount of incentives given for participance are the best approach for this; instead, I think that the best solution would be preparing for camper inactivity while planning.

To make sure our storyline is influenced by this viewpoint, I would do my best to make sure our plans didn't completely hinge on activity; planning set release dates regardless of completion, setting up backup plans in case we don't get much response, and creating some activities that focus on lighthearted bonding and don't require much engagement.

However, I acknowledge that some storylines are fundamentally based around camper activity, and these solutions just wouldn't function within the idea. Luckily, though, I believe there are some alternative solutions that would work (at the very least) almost as well! For example, just lightening the load a bit— instead of asking for 500 words or seven participants, ask for 200 and three participants! Another solution that I think could be effective is creating something intriguing— something you'd want to do regardless if it helped your storyline progress or not.

You can't predict camper activity— and I believe a good leadership team should keep that at the front of their minds while planning to create a flexible cabin that has plenty of cushioning for these situations.

⊹ swc impact ⊹

This is such a heavy question for me, as SWC has been such a huge part of life for the sessions I've been in— from the moment I typed in a little form on a camper signups project, asking if it was too late to join, to the joy it's been creating this application, SWC has put its fingerprints into every word I write and everything I do. It's taught me how to become a better writer, a better leader, a better person; and I wouldn't be who I am today without it. I've found some of my best friends in this community, and even those I've barely spoken to inspire me like no one else.

The impact this community has had on me is clear in many ways throughout my life, such as letting me be more open with others, inspiring me to embrace my quirks, widening my reading tastes, and even just helping me get better grades on my writing assignments.

Helping make a similar impact on others through SWC means so much to me— the thought of taking part in an aspect of someone's life who, more likely than not, lives millions of miles away from me, is something so incredibly special.

The main thing I want campers to remember from this session is the community. One of the things I value most in a leader is approachability— I want to get to know my cabin thoroughly this session and create bonds that'll last far beyond just a month. To accomplish this, I hope to check our studios and projects regularly for chances to interact, stop by profiles to say hi to new people, respond to everyone who reaches out to me, answering any questions about SWC I see, and generally just working to stay active and friendly throughout the session.

A cabin worth remembering is a cabin you feel at home in— and I want my cabin to embody that completely. Collaborative, welcoming spaces can only be made through interaction, and I hope to encourage as much of that as possible to ensure every camper gets the same incredible experiences I've had.

I hope to take inspiration from these and create an entirely unique cabin with my (co)leaders, and in the end collaborate to build a cabin that's overall simply really enjoyable for everyone involved!

Even though I didn't co-lead, I had the time of my life! I made so many friends and grew so much as a writer. I'm still in awe of how much SWC has done for me. It has helped me become a better person, a better author, and a better friend.

Another idea I have is that of a A Series Of Unfortunate Events (Netflix series) themed Real-Fi cabin.

This theme could be adapted to fit the Adventure genre, but I believe that Real-Fi fits best.

If I’m being completely honest, I still don’t fully understand how (co)leading works. However, I think that I’ll only ever understand by doing it myself, and I’m very willing (and eager!) to learn. If given the chance, I’d definitely ask around for help and guidance. I’m also quite adaptable, which I think will help me learn quickly. In this case, I believe I’d still be able to (co)lead a cabin well.

I estimate most of the cabin planning would occur in October though, which my final exams will eat into. I’ll still be able to check Scratch regularly, but I won’t be able to spend that much time online.

hmm maybe add how you'll prepare your team for this beforehand? long periods of inactivity can be rough but are definitely manageable with the right support, and if one of these is going to pop up for you, the hosts'll probably want to know how you're going to deal with it.

If there are internal disagreements, I’d try to find a compromise between the two parties.

i'd add a ‘by’ here– how are you going to do this? are you going to discuss it with your group, see what aspects they're willing to part with? are you going to look at their ideas and find the overlaps? or will you find out what they're looking for with the ideas and try to make a new idea that accommodates both?

I hold myself accountable through whatever my mind does to naturally remind myself of things that need to get done. If I’m procrastinating, guilt usually builds up and gives me the motivation to finish my task. I can tend to berate myself a little too much, which I’ve been actively trying to grapple with, but regardless I wouldn’t say I have an issue with accountability. Also, the aforementioned guilt of holding others back/slowing things down keeps me punctual.

a few things with this bit– if your mind isn't giving you reminders, which it sometimes doesn't do, how else do you hold yourself accountable? does berating yourself hold you back at all in accountability (if not, it's a bit irrelevant, so maybe consider scrapping it)? the last sentence feels a bit unnecessary as well! and lastly, add another paragraph about how you keep others accountable, as that's another thing the question asks ;)

overall notes for the dedication section would be: add a short bit about upholding life > swc, as three hours is a whole lot of time and hosts likely want to know how you'll be a role model for campers; sprinkle a few exclamation points in there, just to break up the periods and show a bit of personality!

When working with a team, my communication style is honest and understanding with others.

lastly… add a large section about how you'll pass down these experiences to swcers!! the two sections should be pretty equal (considering how much you wrote for the first part.. that might be a bit hard so try for two thirds), make sure to connect it to the first section, make it specific, and explain in detail how you're going to accomplish everything.

overall: great section!! it's really personal which I think the hosts definitely look for and definitely heartwarming ^^
