“ To Be Another ”
poem, 105 words, writing dare. written in approximately an hour
poem, 105 words, writing dare. written in approximately an hour
A bag of chips, out one ‘noon
came across a pair
of brightly shinin’ shoes,
sneakers of crimson tears.
“ oh, how i wish to be
as quick-footed as those ” said he.
A pair of sneakers, moving wrong
crossed paths with a bag of chips
out on the road, hopping along.
said she, “ my, how i wish i
could hop as high ”.
Two rocks, sitting on the side
gazed at the other.
one looked on with pride,
the other it all was just a bother.
Neither knew, that fateful way
how much they wished to be
the other, moving ( or hopping ) that day.
“ what do you think was the key? ”
well, perhaps there isn’t one, Kay.

“ Kat, Ann, Ted, and Fred ”
poem, 139 words, written in approximately 30 minutes
poem, 139 words, written in approximately 30 minutes
Myths turned from tales of old
Like Achilles and his gifts
Stories and epic legends were told
I don’t see many girl heroes on those lists.
What do you think might happen
If the tales themselves were flipped?
Would the princess be trapped in?
Perhaps the knight would have tripped.
Me, I like to think that
The Dragon went and got a tan
In her haste to grab, she didn’t take poor Princess Kat.
The Knight was stolen up instead by the dragon Ann.
That Kat rolled her eyes and said
“ Ann, not again! Don’t take Ted,
He’s had quite enough of Fred. ”
For Ann’s cook might be a man
Who goes by the name of Fred.
Maybe Fred’s cooking was so bad
Because he added too much spice.
Perhaps Ted’s stomach couldn’t handle the cooking of this lad
This, in part, may have made Ted reluctant to go by twice.
This group’s adventures would be great!
I wonder why they’re so late..

attempted 50 head hydra, write 500 words in 5 min, total 201 words
Leah typed quickly on her phone, this was way harder than writing on her notepad, for her ideas quickly burnt out in 5 minutes. It took her way longer to write just 300 words in a half hour, how on earth would she write 500 in just 5 minutes? She groaned, typing a bit quicker, not having enough time to check the timer in case she had only a few seconds left, which meant she needed more words to be written. Looking over her writing, she winced at the spelling. There was probably time to edit that later, after the five minutes were over of course, right? At least she thought so. Would she finish in time? No way to know, but she was quickly rushing out of ideas, and who knew how much time there was left. Glancing around, she spotted her collage that she’d made about four days before. Music, writing, the beach, a bunch of her favorite things and current interests. Mirror affirmations were so much fun to make, and made it easier for her to think about things to write about. At least she didn’t need to do this for the weekly, phew. Five seconds left.. over!

Dear Readers, you're probably reading
What the author wrote for this poem
Yet you're not sure what the point is, leading
To why is this in her writing forum?
Well, you're probably right
Maybe you're asking if there's any one
Character to read about in this light
Is there, by the time I'm done?
Maybe there is, maybe there's not
Waiting for a twist to come show you
Twists like in books you've read lots
Twisting and turning till truly
You have no idea how it connects
The author's glad
Smiling as you read these, detecting
Deciding whether your expression had
Delight or confusion, probably both
Likely confusing, for you
Either way, the author doesn't expect to
Get a high place if this is in a contest, true
She just wrote to see if
Whoever reads this, smiles
After all, the purpose of a story is to smile in a jiff
To help the reader have fun, in style
Unless of course, it's a textbook
Yet, those make parents and teachers smile
Really, every book is designed for a good outlook
To root for the characters and story, all the while
Learning from the mistakes people make
So, you, dear reader, don't make them yourself
Nodding your head, you likely agree, at least for my sake
Kept reading, even if it got boring, for you and myself
That's great, it means you like
The story, it means you chose to create
To live, laugh, and cry with one
To mourn with the characters for fate
Even if the plot's not that good, or great
Even if the story's not much of a story at all
Dear reader, I hope you contemplate
And tell stories of your own, to one and all.

world where everything is opposite (318 words)
Dear diary,
Last night I had the weirdest dream! Day was night, and night was day! Literally, the moon was like the sun, and the light was moonlight instead of sunlight, yet everyone, and I mean everyone, acted as if it had always been this way. Always! Isn't that crazy?
All the people in this unusual world talked backwards too. Like, if they wanted to say, ‘Good morning’, you'd think it would be ‘Good evening’, right? It wasn't! They said, ‘Morning good’. I know that's not the best example, so I'll give you another. The sentence ‘How are you doing today?’ was ‘Today doing you are how?’
I tasted an apple while I was in the strange world; it was all salty and weird and tasted more like an onion than an apple. Clouds were on the ground, and grass was in the sky! Now that I think more about it, it feels like the world I landed in wasn't ours. I mean, I think it would be kind of obvious; everything there seemed to be the opposite of what I see here.
Take the trees, for example; they shouldn't have been upside down! Roots at the top, leaves in the ground- what a silly thing. But it was kind of fun to be in that strange place. I felt a lot like Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, to be honest, like when she was falling down that tunnel?
I'll have a new perspective on my English Literature report today, at least from this dream. I might even get an A! That would definitely be the opposite of normal, if you get what I'm saying. You probably won't; my jokes are just too amazing for this world. I wonder what the people in the other place would think of me now; they'd probably get it.
Oh, Mom's calling for breakfast, so I guess I'll stop now.
Yourself,
Abby
change pacing drastically (240 words)
Abby rushed out of her room, grabbing her backpack, hoping it had everything she’d need. If Abby read the time right, she’d be late to school. Miss Rivera was going to be so disappointed. Normally, she was one of the first students to arrive, which was surprising since Ms. Rivera’s was the first class of the day. Abby’s mom has always wondered why, because she’s not that punctual for anything else.
It may have had something to do with the fact that she was Abby’s favorite teacher. She’d never let Mom know that, though. Her mom would just take it as another example of why music wasn't supposed to be her favorite class, that musicians don’t make much money, and whatnot.
Abby swallowed down the rest of her breakfast. Running out of the front door in her haste, she whispered under her breath. “Please, I really hope I didn’t miss the bus.” Abby would end up having to walk then, and that might actually make her late for once. A few birds chirped nearby as she got to the sidewalk, scanning the road for the bus.
She looked up at the tree and rolled her eyes. The stupid little bird, the one that always seemed to be nearby whenever Abby was late for something, was up in the tree, watching her once again. Hopefully that wasn’t bad luck- she didn’t even know what kind of bird it was.

“ Snow Day ”
the reader is the ‘older sibling’ here
the reader is the ‘older sibling’ here
The ground is white
Today’s a perfect snow day
Sparkling in the light
Coat and boots on among the fray
My sister wants to fly her kite
“That’s not for right now, Kay,”
Our mother says, her face tight
From on the sofa, she lay
The sun was quite bright
Shining through the small window tray
The dog whined in fright
“Shh, it’s okay, Tay,”
My pant leg received a bite
As the kite took flight
Inside our house, contrite
Today is a snow day, right?
