I have a question: what if you don want emails? It might get annoying for some parents because I made my account before I had an email so I used my dads.

Hey everyone! We have a big batch of updates for you all :]

Email Confirmation
We're now requesting user's confirm their email address when creating a new Scratch account. Confirming your email address will enable your account to leave comments, share projects, and create studios. We will send you an email after registration with a link to confirm your account. All you need to do is click that link. Pretty simple, eh?

You're not required to confirm your email address. However, unconfirmed accounts will only be able to make and save unshared projects.

All accounts made before this update do not need to confirm their email address to leave comments, share projects, and create studios, etc.

Why do this? A couple reasons! 1) We're planning to release Scratch email updates soon! So, we want to make sure we're sending updates to working email addresses. 2) We've seen a lot trouble around password reseting and incorrect and / or fake email addresses. It's important the email is working to make this process work smoothly.

Customizable Featured Project Panel
We now have the ability to customize our “Featured Project” panel on our profile page. You can select from 6 presets:

- Featured Project
- Featured Tutorial
- Work In Progress
- Remix This!
- My Favorite Things
- Why I Scratch

To do this: Go to Featured Project panel on your profile. Hover over your featured project, and then click “Change Featured Project.” Then simply pick one of the presets from the drop-down menu on that page.

Design a Valentine
Look for the new heart sprites and “Design a Valentine” tutorial in the Tips Window.

Password Protecting Empty Trash
You'll now need to enter your password to “Empty Trash” aka permanently delete your projects.

I think another cool update to do would be to do on-website currency, e.g. Scratchbux and every time someone favorites your project you get 5 Scratchbux and every love is 2 Scratchbux. Just a suggestion.

I just have a concern: I don't really like the email thing. If some kids' parent keeps getting Scratch emails, they aren't going to know what the emails are and make their kid stop using Scratch because they don't want to get emails from a source they don't really trust yet. Also, if the parent gets the email confirmation thing they'll probably think it's junkmail and delete it straightaway. That would leave the poor kid unable to share projects in any way just all because of an email misconception. Take my mom, for example. If she started receiving random Scratch updates she would probably demand to know what they are, putting me in an uncomfortable and unnecessary situation.

Just my opinion, you don't have to consider it. But I do highly recommend you remove the feature.

Also, another reason - this would leave a lot of people hanging. My friend signed up with a fake email because he didn't WANT to worry about all that email and password-resetting stuff and his parents probably wouldn't TRUST Scratch with their email even though it's only for one simple reason, and some people don't want to GO through all that just because of that one, silly, overtaking condition that prevents them from even making a Scratch account. Fake emails, on the other hand, are like a safe haven - and now that's gone. So if someone like my friend creates an account with a fake email, they suddenly can't share projects and have no idea what's going on so the poor kid wouldn't get to use Scratch to its full potential all because of one silly thing.

So please please PLEASE remove this feature or else Scratch's reputation might go down. A lot.

I Agree. They Should Remove this feature.

On the featured projects, add the preset “About Me”; I've seen a lot of people feature projects that tell who they are.

I have a suggestion for a new update. Along with the 6 presets, you can make your own custom text. I believe that you should not need to confirm an email before being able to comment. However, you should have to before you can curate studios.
