Prevent adults from talking to children
This proposed safety feature would reduce the amount of adults interacting with children on Scratch, which could potentially lead to unsafe interactions.
The plan would first identify the “adults” through the current users' age given while signing up. The second phase would be a face-scan style age verification system, similar to what Roblox and Instagram uses for similar purposes.

Second I read “age verification system similar to what Roblox” I immediately thought no support.
You should NOT AT ALL have to give your face, ID, or any personal information to a company because you will never know what they’ll do with it. Trying to solve safety issues with other safety issues just causes more safety issues.
Also if adults are blocked from talking to children on scratch, basically the site would kinda collapse in some areas especially on the forums + it would really be better to have a stricter safety system

Second I read “age verification system similar to what Roblox” I immediately thought no support.1. Your use of Scratch already contradicts this… to sign up, you have already given up your personal information such as email, birthday, location through IP Address and gender to Scratch (which btw is not a company, but a nonprofit)
You should NOT AT ALL have to give your face, ID, or any personal information to a company because you will never know what they’ll do with it.
2. Scratch already collects users' face through the face sensing feature, and they have done it with no issues regarding privacy.

2. Hasn’t the scratch team LITERALLY said that face sensing doesn’t use your face? Edit: yeah, they have said it is not stored or sent anywhere.

Codubee literally answers questions n interacts with people in a safe, professional, and respectful manner ive literally seen it before. It’s literally the equivalent of how a teacher behaves, which is also an employed grown adult, that works in a children’s organization depending on the school, talking to children. How am I going to talk to s I mean Codubee or Paddle now *cough cough*I do believe that it is slightly weird that grown adults working for Scratch is interacting with its children users

Wouldn't this face-scan process also not store your face and only use it for age verification?

I still just don’t think it’s ok to give your face or ID to anyone because that can be used to identify you way more easily than a IP address, even if it’s not being stored, still can set up the wrong idea for younger users that it’s ok to give away PI without a care to companies

Does the current personal information collected by Scratch (email, birthday, gender, location via IP) set up the wrong idea for younger users that it's ok to give PI without a care to companies?

1. Not everyone put their actual age when signing up, you do realize many people put random years way older than them
2. I. DO. NOT. WANT. ANY. FACE. SCAN. ON. SCRATCH and not to mention it is not always accurate and you do know how much backlash it caused on roblox right?
3. Bro does realize that ALL of ST are adults right?

The face verification is rejected. (source)
We have zero plans to institute face verification. And I think I can say with certainty that we never will

Prevent adults from talking to children
This proposed safety feature would reduce the amount of adults interacting with children on Scratch, which could potentially lead to unsafe interactions.this would therefore mean that there would have to be an age check (two levels: children and adults), and it was previously rejected for the same reasons as adding 13+ scratch:
The plan would first identify the “adults” through the current users' age given while signing up. The second phase would be a face-scan style age verification system, similar to what Roblox and Instagram uses for similar purposes.
8.2 A 13+ version of the Scratch website or age-restricted content
Scratch is designed for ages 8 to 16, but any content shared on the website must be appropriate for all ages. Dividing the community by making a separate, age-restricted website would not be helpful. Potential restrictions from entering the website (such as a warning, or requiring a parent to answer math equations) would not necessarily stop an underage child from entering the 13+ website.
This extends to age-restricting anything on Scratch, such as viewing specific projects or accessing specific Scratch features. As a general rule, Scratch is for all ages, and content shared on the Scratch website should be appropriate for all ages.

Prevent adults from talking to children
why don't you supportwhy are you asking me?
it’s clearly obvious that this suggestion was never a good idea in the first place
also I don’t use the support convention like alot
believe it or not, I used to tell people to give a reason on why they need to support
but since someone told me it’s not a good idea, I stopped doing it
