Scratch Foundation's Long Scratch Link
At the bottom of the webpages of the Scratch Foundation site, you can click on a link that takes you to the main scratch website. However, the link they use is super long and actually works as the main page. Here's the link they use. Why do they use a special link like this, and why does it work as a main page?

The link works because having those extra bits in the URL doesn't affect the page, at least I think
As for why, maybe it's some kind of analytics thing?

I don't know if it's just me or if I'm looking in the right place or what, but I see that they just use the usual scratch.mit.edu link.

I think the OP means the stuff after the scratch.mit.edu/ part, where there are a number of seemingly random symbols. It's probably used for analytics. I don't know if it's just me or if I'm looking in the right place or what, but I see that they just use the usual scratch.mit.edu link.

Forum tips:
Don't title topics something like “HELP ME!!!”. It's not helpful, and won't get you as many responses.
Don't post in topics where the latest post is over ~2 months old, unless you have something critical to add. Especially in topics that are several years old- it isn't helpful, and is known as necroposting.
Don't post unrelated things in topics, including questions of your own. Make a new topic for your questions.

Possibly. If I hover my mouse over the “Scratch” link at the bottom of the webpage, something in the bottom-left corner of my screen shows, as usual, the link it will take me to. The link that is displayed is scratch.mit.edu. Do you mean in the redirect?

Ultimately this doesn't really matter as I'm not really helping OP answer the question. At first I thought maybe it was device-specific or something, for some reason.

It also shows me the link when I hover over it too as usual as the OP above me: scratch.mit.edu.

Scratch Foundation's Long Scratch Link
(We should probably show our browser and computer info)
I'm currently on an iPad, on Safari (My browser / operating system: iPad iOS 17.4.1, Safari 17.4.1, No Flash version detected)
When I wrote my earlier post, I was on a Chromebook running Chrome 124 and the latest version of ChromeOS, and I was hovering over the link. To paste the link in the post, I highlighted the one in the OP, right-clicked, and clicked “copy link address”.
Currently on the iPad, the extra stuff in the link doesn't show up, but that's intentional design on Apple's part- you can only either open the link or open a preview of the page that it links to (which preloads it, so it goes to wherever the link redirects to). Since there isn't any way to really hover, most of the link details are lost.
