Overall Game Elements:
  • Visual novel styled dialogue
  • Rhythm game
  • Gacha system (MAYBE)
  • NPC relationships (will trigger certain events, art, stories, and songs)
  • Save function
  • RPG-styled movement

Visual Novel:
  • Static images of characters speaking with different expressions
  • Active relationship meter at the top with typical VN dialogue settings
  • Slightly transparent textbox at the bottom
  • Hopefully with voice actors… but this is ancillary…

Rhythm Game:
  • Notes flow from the top middle to a large scale towards the bottom (Just like PJSK)
  • 2 Game Modes (PC + Mobile)
  • -> PC = standard single notes + hold notes
  • -> Mobile = standard single notes + hold notes + sliders (MOBILE is currently 2ND priority)
  • Dark + light mode? Also not MVP
  • Standard options for note speed, volume, etc

Gacha System:
  • Not very flushed out, I admit…
  • Currency is “Beats” or something like that…
  • “Beats” are earned by quests or playing the songs

Story:
  • Player controls a character, finally!
  • At start of game, player chooses gender and name
  • The main place is set in “International Academy of Music” or something like that
  • Age-range is standard high school years, because Scratch.

Miscellaneous Game Mechanics:
  • The world is set to be sorta like a top-down pixel RPG (Omori, Pixel Dungeon, etc, etc…)
  • Player can be customized (Not MVP)
  • Profile can be customized (We'll probably make this a multiplayer, I'm not sure yet…)
  • In main lobby/home/whatever, player can view relationships, songs, stories/events, and profile…
  • NPCs that the player builds enough RP(relationship points) with can join you with special attributes/buffs during rhythm game or lounge in player's main screen…

World:
  • Time: Modern 2020s
  • Location: Prestigious music academy in London
  • - Despite the modern world, the academy has early 1900s infrastructure and feel

No worries, I'm cleaning the house so I won't be too active either.

Like stated above, the main area takes place in modern London and in a prestigious, international music academy. The kids stay there from ages 14-20, and then they move on with their musical careers or life. Some kids, however, are transfer students who transfer in from different countries, etc, etc…

Low-fantasy, if at all possible. Animal ears and tails are okay, but no furries, animals, magic, etc. This is supposed to take place in the real world with little fantasy elements.

And I know this might be a sensitive topic for some, but no LGBTQ here. Whether in the characters, story, etc.

Let me know your thoughts, all.

That sounds good, I can help make a small map or concept art if you want?

Quick question, how many rooms do we want in this? One for each instrument type or that with sub-types, like certain styles of music?

That's actually what we need to talk about. If you want, you can start with some expensive-looking courtyard. I think we can all agree that the academy needs a large main courtyard with maybe a fountain, benches, and pavement. And then the main gates and fences and etc, etc…

Design notes for drawing later:

Courtyard Entrance/Fences - Marble with musical notes at the very bottom of the entryway, the fences match the entrance almost exactly, just as a fence instead of an entrance, there are 3 entrances, one right side entrance, one left side entrance, and a front entrance where things like a parking lot, sidewalk, and a bus stop is located.

Courtyard - Starting at the entrance and ending at the academy doors, the pathway, which is a light gray and has a rectangular pattern, spans about 75 ft., in the middle there is a circular area made of the same pavement with light wooden benches on the edge and a fountain in the middle, from this circular space you can also reach the other two entrances via. other pathways leading to them. Surrounding the pathways and the intersection is a hedge about 3 1/2 ft. tall, though you can access the area outside of the pathways via. a few cut-out areas where you can find a variety of flowers, many of them are roses, mainly in shades of red, orange, and pink with a few purple roses scattered around the area.

Fountain - The fountain takes up about half the area of the intersection and is made of marble and has 3 layers, there are musical notes painted on the base and top as well.

(Let me know if I should add anything before I get to drawing)

Hey guys! I want to ask about how you imagine the settings screen looking. Since im trying to add some functionality to the title screen button You can try to draw or design some concept

Summary:
1: One singular sprite for one singular purpose
2: REMOVE THE STRAY BLOCKS

Organization is one of the most important things in scratch because if your project is cluttered and impossible to read you can't get any help and it will make your project seem less manageable.

Two of the most important things when it comes to organization is 1: Compactness. You need to make your project compact since that will make it cleaner to read. The most common mistake when it comes to compactness is making multiple different sprites that all are about or have something to do with each other. You should always only use one singular sprite for one singular purpose. (Player_Hitbox) and (Player) should be in the same sprite!!! Just use clones and some simple code management to separate the two and your code is much better. 2: Removing stray blocks. What I mean by that is for example when you finish some code and there is a lot of random stuff which doesn't do anything around the code you should remove it since it makes your project less laggy and easier to navigate!

I'm going to start on a sketch of the map in general, then I'll finish it up.

As you can see, Cotton's currently working on the draft of the school courtyard map. Design-wise for the RPG aspect of the game, we don't have a lot. All the finished products you can find in the Trello media board or in the studio. And for the tasks, that's actually what we use the Trello board for. If you're not familiar, that's fine - all the tasks will be in either of these five lanes: Backlog, To Do, Doing, Done, and Blocked. The middle three are kinda self-explanatory, but Backlog is for ALL the tasks that need to be done, but aren't ready to be worked on yet(obviously we don't have all of ‘em xD) and Blocked is for the tasks that are unable to be worked on because they’re being blocked by something else. Blocked items need to be unblocked ASAP for work to continue. We use kanban, which essentially means that you can choose any task that you're comfortable doing and finishing it. If someone else is working on it and you wanna help, go right ahead and just ask them if you can help them. And if you're working on a task, add yourself to the card to signify your ownership.

Umm, the really big tasks that need to be done are really just story writing and designing.

Ok… I'm a little confused rn. So we have a plot… and the mp is at a music school… and when does the rhythm part of the game happen? (Ie the rhythm game stuff)

I’m a really underrated coder/artist! I fix up people’s old games and would LOVE to hear about any underrated games.

During performances in the actual story-driven gameplay, and also as it's own part of the game. Like PJSK's story chapters versus rhythm game part.
