quick edit: it crashed after i added a couple more costumes for jumping and a attack move
also realised that if i delete some sprites the game will shift some animations into non-existance so yipee

I've managed to get it to around 2000.

It depends on what the costumes are. If it's vector or bitmap assets for a game, then it'll probably handle a lot. But if you're talking about costumes that show the frames of a gif or something, then I usually was able to max out at around 500 without loading issues.

The 10 MB limit only applies to Scratch 1.x projects.

In Scratch 3.0, limits are placed on individual assets, rather than having a cumulative maximum size for the entire project.
The specific limits are:
  • 10 MB for each asset (i.e. costumes, backdrops, sounds)
  • 5 MB for project.json (contains asset metadata and project code)
In theory, a Scratch 3.0 project can expand infinitely as long as these limits are obeyed.
However, because asset metadata is stored in project.json, each asset you add makes it a little bit bigger, and eventually you'll hit the size limit.
Functionally, this means that a Scratch 3.0 project cannot exceed 70,847 assets, or 708 GB in size.

I think they meant as in each costume/backdrop/sound, not the entire project.

Someone did the math on this a few years ago, and I believe the functional limit was found to be ~200 GB.
the difference between 50MB to 200GB is scary though LOL

It's even crazier than that— I checked the Wiki again, and the limit is actually 708 GB. Insanity.

Flowermanvista did the math here.

Oh my god if you made a 708 gb project, you’re just insane at that point.
