Scratch is a non-profit, so they can't add ads. Also, the current Scratch front page suffices and honestly looks nice. Also, how do I get dark mode? If the thing comes bundled with only the main page, that makes no sense.

I think the design looks really good, but I think you should remove the ad section(or even better, replace it with the video that plays on the main page when you're not signed in).

Yeah…or you could do like a Top Project or, as you said, a promotional video

I like the UI and redesign, but the scratch team rejected the ad part.

I think the usage of space isn't really perfect in this mockup. Scratch isn't a marketplace, so having an algorithm decide your recommended projects and have a huge “play this recommended project” banner won't add any educational value to Scratch. The current home page, in my opinion has everything balanced and relevant info, like friend activity and announcement in perfect spots.

☆ I don't think ‘recommended projects’ would be a good idea at all, considering that something that breaks Scratch Community Guidelines might get recommended as well. I think the current GUI looks better and the mockup is a bit too oversimplified.
