Citrus and Jax used to be just two normal white kittens. they had never known their mother, and had spent the first few months of their lives in a cage, but they don't remember this. Their first memories are from when they were fused with objects. See, they were being kept by these young boys who loved nothing more than experimenting. They had been spending years and years trying to perfect an animal who was not only fused with another object to make it stronger, but also gifted human conciousness and speech. They actually didn't expect Jax and Citrus to be perfect results- they were supposed to be just another test, which is why Citrus was fused with a random lemon they found and Jax was them testing if they could fuse two living creatures together. It workes, and these two cats, now able to think, speak and comprehend just like a human, were standing on their desk.
Cirtus and Jax lived with these boys for quite a while, and it was a pretty friendly environment. Jax and Citrus were completely sheltered from all of the experiments and animal testing going on in the other rooms, so they just saw the boys as their ‘parents’ and looked up to them very much.
Citrus, however, was not so sheltered.
The boys realised at one point that her tears were lemonade- they best lemonade they had ever tasted. They could sell this.
And so they would take Citrus to another room and torment her, making her sob her eyes out so they could collect her tears and sell it. Citrus was constantly traumatised and always very shaky. Jax would ask her what was wrong, but she would just shake her head and ignore him.
After a while, however, pshycological torture stopped working on Citrus. she just didn't seem able to cry at anything anymore. So they turned to cutting her open and making her cry from pain. They told Jax that the new cuts on her leg were a desiese she had gotten, and they were trying desperately to fix it. They told Citrus that if she ever told Jax the truth they would kill Jax.
Citrus lived in constant terror and agony, and it soon got to the pount where she not only couldn't use her leg at all, but she couldn't bring herself to speak. Jax was growing more and more concerned. He trusted the boys with all of his heart, but Jake didn't. Jake was convinced something was going on, something menacing they they weren't being made aware of. So one day, Jake convinced Jax to silently follow the boys when they took Citrus one day.
What he saw horrified him beyond words.
His sister was being held down as her leg was cut and she sobbed miserably into a jar. The worst thing was, the boys were *laughing*. as if this were a game to them at this point.
Jax let out an enraged howl, and stood in front of his sister protectively, with Jake ready to strike at any moment. The boys had come unprepared for a fight, as they were used to Citrus never putting up a fight and they would never have expected the joyful Jax to be so vicious. One of the boys tried to grab Jax, and Jake bit him, hard, injecting him with venom. The boy was horrified, knowing that he would probably die soon after Jake's deadly bite.
When everyone was panicked over the boy who had been bitten, Jax grabbed Citrus, who was now unconcious, and ran with her. He managed to escape pretty easily, since the boys had seen no reason to trap the two cats when they were very happy where they were, and he fled to the woods. He wrapped Citrus's wounds in his scarf.
A few days later, and Jax had many regrets. Citrus was very feverish, and when she awoke it was only for a few seconds to scream or groan in pain. He should have waited until the boys had treated Cirtus's fresh wounds, and then taken her, but he was so blinded by anger that he hadn't thought of that.
The watched his sister with terror, constantly thinking every breath could be her last.
After a bit, two humans found them. they were intrigued by the cats, and even more so when Jax told them loudly and clearly to go away. The two humans were a very friendly couple, and the woman sat down in front of them, cautious of the hissing Jake and the glaring Jax.
the human offered to help Citrus, and though Jax really did not want to trust a human after what had happened with the boys, he saw no other option. It was this or Citrus died. He miserably agreed, following them home but refusing to let them carry Cirtus.
When they got there, the woman treated Citrus's wounds.
It took a while, but Citrus recovered, though she still could not use her leg and she was extremely terrified of everything. Jax and James decided that these humans were safe, and would protect them well enough, so they decided to stay with them, but keep a very close eye on Citrus at all times.
After a while, citrus managed to speak to Jax again, which was incredible. he hadn't heard her voice in months. She still didn't speak much, but it was an improvement.
The two humans were intrigued when Jax told them about how they were made and where they came from, but when Citrus was finally able to speak full sentences again, she stared ranting to Jax, completely breaking down. She didn't even seem that bothered about the physical pain she had endured- it was the emotional trauma that was truly horrifying. The boys would show her all of their failed experiments, all of their tortured animals kept in cages, and by the end, they even showed her her own mother, her skin sewn onto the wall as a decoration. Jax told the humans about this, and their interest in these boys genuis very quickly turned to utter horror. They asked Jax for the general surroundings of the house he had escaped, and ended up figuring out where the boys lived, calling the police on them anonymously. They decided not to tell the police about Jax, Jake and Citrus, out of fear that they would be ripped away from their comfortable lives for more horrific testing.

Citrus, Jax and Jake now live quite happily together, and they have been taught what an actual caring family is by their owners.

This is awesome. I really liked it, yet I feel so bad for cirtcus. It actually made me cry, and I look for that is stories. It means it has emotion. You're really good!
