Sprite Watermarking/Notifying
Aight so uh first suggestion I made here, but hear me out.
I want a watermark.
Not those stock watermarks that spam everywhere on a photo. Just a sprite watermark.
What the actual world Im talking about
So there is the Backpack feature in Scratch right?
Well lets say its great for getting something that would take you 5 hours to make, but it is REALLY bad for crediting.
As it can let people take other peoples sprite/code without remixing/notifying them.
Im saying this is a problem cuz me and my friends had many of our sprites get stolen, and its REALLY annoying.
People should either have:
A way to be notified for someone backpacking their sprites
OR
A automatic credit placed on the sprite when it is backpacked
How would it look?
I got some ideas:
This is how it would look on the backpacked sprite. THe bottom would be the username and the top line will be the Sprite name joined with what the sprite is, a sound/costume/sprite.
This is how it would look like in the project
This is how it would look in costumes and stuff. The same applies for sounds.
This would be useful to know who its from and stuff.
What if the Original Creator doesn't want credit?
Well, uh, I guess make it a toggleable option?
Something like that.
@Queer_Royalty Suggested that if it is off, it will say From Anonymous.
Will changing the sprite remove the credit?
Well I guess so. I wish there was something like “change the sprite at least by 50%” but that would be probably hard to code in.
Maybe the amount of changes needed? Like it would count how many changes you made?
Maybe like that? Debatable, maybe more than 10 edits? This is a questionable argument.
Or it could more be a “Help from” type of thing. Like the Remix Credit bar at the top of projects.
What if it was a notification?
Well I would assume it would look like this:
Wouldn't really want this as that could lead to someone just spamming you by repeating to backpack ur sprite.
Why do we need this?
Well it should be important to credit someone when you are using their items.
I know reporting someone who didn't credit you exists, but thats trying to soften the problem. Wouldnt it be better to prevent it from happening?
I discussed how it could be togglable or something, so its not a forced watermark if the creator doesn't want to. It should at least say who you got it from when you backpack a sprite. It just avoids the problem of people trying to steal other peoples things, and stopping people from stealing is a good thing. So uh yeah, that concludes it. Just want a watermark. I know its probably hard to add, but still would be useful.
Edit: Realized that none of my pictures are working, will save it once I know how
Edit 2: Got the images working. Being new to forums doesnt help ;-;

With the way Scratch and it can let people take other peoples sprite/code without notifying them.CC-BY-SA 2.0 work you don't need to notify someone to use their work. You don't even need their permission. All you need to do is follow the license.
To fully comply with CC-BY-SA 2.0, and to save the ST from legal issues, this should be no. Even if someone completely changed the sprite it would still cause legal issues. Will changing the sprite remove the credit?
See the top of my post. Notification isn't necessary. What if it was a notification?

Yes I know Notifications aren't needed, I even stated “Wouldn't really want this as that could lead to someone just spamming you by repeating to backpack ur sprite.” I just put it there as to see what it would have looked like if it was one.
The whole reason I made this post was to suggest watermarks, things like a tag to inform who it was originally created by. So would a watermark on the sprite be ok?

I support the part of your suggestion about automatic backpacking credit, but not the rest. Notifications for someone backpacking something from a project is unnecessary.

You could just put your profile picture in front of the sprite and convert it to bitmap so they can't remove it. However, you don't need other scratcher's permission to use their work. You just have to credit them.
through tough thorough thought, though

What if the Original Creator doesn't want credit?isn't this literally not legal or something
Well, uh, I guess make it a toggleable option?
Something like that
you have to credit the original creator

The Credit Toggle is only for the original owner of the project. Lets say I made some platformer engine, and I do not want credit for it, I would turn off the credit button on MY project so people can backpack it without getting the watermark.

This might lead to confusion. People might think the person is stealing when really the credit option was just off. Maybe there could be an option to change it to Anonymous instead? What if the Original Creator doesn't want credit?isn't this literally not legal or something
