well, let's say the tag is your actual username, and you can add a display name! Instead of your actual username, a customized display name! So if you change your display name, you still have to tag yourself with the actual username that cannot be changed!

I don't think that's what the user is suggesting. Indeed, the user is suggesting to have an “unchangeable username” (I couldn't find a better way to put it) and a “display name” that can be changed at will.

It is possible to temporarily change your username.

What else do you think a “nickname” means? I seriously think that what the OP is suggesting is what is rejected.

I don't know if this is still rejected or what the Scratch Team think about this, but i was always annoyed that changing usernames was rejected. Don't get me wrong, i understand why, but i really don't like my username i have a question though:
Would you be able to set it to one that's already taken?

I like this idea though, because I don't want to move accounts or anything just to get a new username

Yes, it's supposed to be a nick like in github, the only one you cannot change or you cannot set it to one that's already taken is your permanent username
