How to use BBC Code - Explains Everything!

To start with I will explain the things you will find when you first arrive on the discussion forum page

A list of categories to create you topic or comment on. These are: and lots of Language forums.

These are where you can post something related to the forum.

To post a question in the Questions about Scratch forum for instance, click the Questions about Scratch and a large list will appear. Click on the New Topic in the corner and type your question. Only post things that relate to the forum.

I have created two projects that explain all this as well! The first one is ~here~ and the second is ~here~

What things can you do in a topic post e.g. coloured text?

To get bold text like this highlight your text and click the ‘B’ under the word Message and a b in a pair of squared brackets appears in front of your text and a /b in the same pair of brackets appears behind the text. Don't worry! It won't look like this when you submit or save - it will turn into bold writing. It should look like this:
 your text

To get italic text like this highlight your text and lick the tilted ‘I’ next to the ‘B’ and the same thing will happen as with the bold text, but with i and
/i in the brackets. Again, it will not look like this when you save or edit it. It should look like this:
 your text

To get underlined text like this repeat what you did to get bold and italic text but with the underlined ‘U’ next to the italic ‘I’. It should look like this:
 your text

To get text with a line through it like this repeat what you did to get bold and italic text but click the ‘S’ with a line through it. It should look like this:
[s] your text [/s]

To get a link like this: https://scratch.mit.edu/users/Jolia_RKW/ go to a page and copy and paste the page link into your post or topic. It should look like this:
https://YOUR_LINK

To get a word that when you click on it you go to a page like this then either highlight your text and click the paperclip button and paste your link. Or click the paperclip button, paste your link and type your text into the indicated space. It should look like this:
 your text

To get bigger or smaller text like that <— repeat what you did to get bold text but click the blue ‘A’ and choose either Big or Small. Big text should look like this:
[big] your text [/big]
and small text should look like this:
[small] your text [/small]

To get emojis like this: click the smily face and choose your emoji. It will look like this :) :o  :| but will turn into an emoji when you post or save or post.

To get an image, you will need to sign up with a supported image host and upload the photo then get the link and then paste it into the ‘img’ tags.
It should look like this:

To do quotes like this:
An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
click the person with a speech bubble next to the smily face and write your quote between the ‘quote’ tags. It should look like this:
your text
To get a nice bullet-pointed list without much fuss, like this:
 • Item 1
 • Item 2
 • Item 3
Then type ‘list’ in squared brackets where you'd like to start your list. Next, type ‘*’ in squared brackets and type your first item of the list next to it. Press enter and repeat until you've finished your list. To “stop” your list then type ‘/list’ in squared brackets and continue typing as normal. It should look like this:
normal text

Item 1 (enter)
Item 2 (enter)
normal text
If you want a list with numbers like this:
 1. Item
 2. Item
 3. Item
Then type ‘list=1’ in squared brackets where you'd like to start your list. You can type any number instead of 1 of you want, but remember the list will start with whatever number you choose and get 1 larger than your number as the list continues. Next, type ‘*’ in squared brackets and type your first item of the list next to it. Press enter and repeat until you've finished your list. To “stop” your list then type ‘/list’ in squared brackets and continue typing as normal. It should look like this:
normal text

Item (enter)
Item (enter)
normal text
If you don't like all this typing then just click either the blue bullet-pointed list next to the blue capital A to get a nice bullet-pointed list, or the blue numbered list next to the bullet-pointed list and type your starting number into the indicated space (see more about this above) to get a nice numbered list. To get a single bullet-pointed item then click the single blue bullet-pointed item to get that. Or type ‘*’ in squared brackets and your single bullet-pointed item. It should look like this:
normal text
Item normal text

To get some scratch blocks like this:
say [Jolia_RKW is cool]
click the blue scratchblock button and choose your block. MAKE SURE you ‘stop’ the scratch blocks by typing ‘/scratchblocks’ into a pair of squared brackets, else it will be like this:

say [I rule!] for (2) secs
Please go check out this awesome studio:
Please look at my profile, projects and studios
And until next time,
Jolia_RKW

So remember to ‘stop’ the scratch blocks! It should look like this:
[scratchblocks] your scratch block thingy [/scratchblocks]

To get coloured text type color= in the squared brackets and a colour code like this: #000080 next to the = sign. ( If you want some colour codes go somewhere like ~here~ ) Type your text and at the end when you want to ‘stop’ the coloured text type /color in the squared brackets after the text. The alternative option (which I just found out) is that instead of typing a colour code you can type the name of the colour and it turns that colour! I don't know if it works all the time though.
test 1 (typed ‘red’)
test 2 (typed ‘orange’)
test 3 (typed ‘yellow’)
test 4 (typed ‘green’)
test 5 (typed ‘blue’)
test 6 (typed ‘navy’)
test 7 (typed ‘purple’)
test 8 (typed ‘pink’)
okay so it works for those colours!
It should look like this:
 your text
YOU MUST USE ‘color’ instead of 'colour' else it won't work!

To get faded text like this: I hope this post is helpful
then go to a website like this: ~click~ and make sure the output code is ‘vBulletin, Invision Powerboard’ then copy and paste the code into your post. It should look something like this:
I ho

To get centred text without just pressing space, space, space like this:

-example of centred text-

type ‘center’ into a pair of squared brackets, then type your text then after your text to ‘stop’ the center, type ‘/center’ into a pair of squared brackets. When you post it, it will turn into centred text! It should look like this:
 your text
YOU MUST USE ‘center’ INSTEAD OF 'centre' ELSE IT WON'T WORK!

This is useful if you are a banner or thumbnail shop. If you have just completed an order you will obviously give the customer the banner ‘code’ and show them what it looks like. If you just posted the code like this: http://u.cubeupload.com/olliehazel9/theshootingstarshop.png then when they try to copy it wold be a bit annoying when you accidentally press it (try it if you want). so if you put the code like this:
http://u.cubeupload.com/olliehazel9/theshootingstarshop.png
then you can easily copy it. Try if you want. To do this DON'T use quotes, instead write code in squared brackets before the image ‘code’ and /code in squared brackets after the image ‘code’ to stop it. It should look like this:
your text/image link
To ‘bump’ your post, post ‘bump’ in your topic but only once a day else it's considered spamming. ‘bump’ stands for Bring Up My Post if you're wondering.

Something I found out that has changed my life in a really good way!

Okay, so I saw a project by LotusLavender and found out you can see kind of how your post will look WITHOUT ACTUALLY POSTING YOUR POST!
It's called preview.
To do it, look next to the blue scratch block, ignore the 2 blue arrows with the stop sign and click the green tick. Below your post that you haven't posted yet, you should see what looks like a post but is actually what your post will be like! It also works when you're editing.
Hope you find this as life-changing as I did!
Your signature

All the things you can put in a post and topic you can put in a signature (as far as i'm aware)

A signature is a small piece of text that will always appear at the bottom of a post or topic. To change it go to the Discussion Home page and go to the bottom of that under the Languages section and click the ‘change your signature button’. Play around with your signature until you're happy with it.

To find your signature go to the Discussion Home page and scroll to the bottom. Underneath the Languages forums you should see this:

Show your topics/posts
Change your signature

Click ‘change your signature’ to change your signature. Click ‘show your topics and posts’ to see your topics, posts and any discussion forums you are following. They will be in a list.
Your signature - How to Scroll In It
So you've got a signature but *gasp!* half of it is ‘cut off’. To see the rest of it, highlight ANY part of the signature and press Ctrl, Shift, Up or Down Arrow.
A note about fonts

Some fonts will not work if you post them in a topic or post - so be warned!
To edit your topic or post

Click the edit button next to the ‘report’ & ‘quote’ at the bottom of the post and do what ever you need to do.
To close your topic

Go to the bottom of the topic and click the grey ‘close topic’ button to close your topic, this means no-one can post anything on it, you can't edit it and can't change the title. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY WANT TO CLOSE THE TOPIC AS YOU CAN NOT OPEN IT AGAIN!
To go to the next or previous page on a discussion forum

Some discussion forums, like shops, will often have more than one ‘page’ so all the posts can fit in! So to go to the next page make sure you're on a discussion forum with more than one page, look at the near top-right corner and you should see this:
‹‹previous 1 2 37 8 9 next››

The page ‘1’ is black because you are on it, the ‘previous’ is black because you cannot go to a page before page on on this forum. There are 2 ways to go to the next and previous pages on a forum:

1) Click ‘next’ or ‘previous’
2) Click the number of the next or previous page. This means you can easily go to page 8 if you're on page 1, just click ‘8’.

Once you're on another page it should look like this:
‹‹previous 1 2 37 8 9 next››

The ‘2’ is black because you're on that page and the ‘previous’ is blue so you can go to the previous page.
I think this is helpful because sometimes shops have more than 1 page and so to order you need to go the the last page, or the highest number, so you can order.
To make your shop a little neater, or to avoid a SUPER LONG post in general, just delete the unimportant text inside the ‘quote’ and ‘/quote’ in the squared brackets and post ~snip~, or ~snippity snip~, ~or snippity snip snip~ just to shorten the post. This isn't code but hopefully will help. Example where this is useful:

Phew! That was a lot of typing

I have put in as much as I know about forums so I hope it helps you.

Please tell me about any mistakes or extra info I can put in this.
I will hopefully update this regularly.

Cool! This might be a better fit in the New Scratchers forum, though, so New Scratchers can see your post!
I'll report it to be moved (and if it gets stickied, that was probably because of me lol)
