well theres a bit more to nuzlockes, theyre self imposed challenge runs of pokemon games, what DifferentDance8 mentioned is true but you also have to nickname all ur pokemon, and arent allowed to use items in battle.
anyways the thing i was talking about is specifically a series of twich/youtube streams by saltydkdan, where he does a pokemon nuzlocke with a special twist, being that each pokemon caught is assigned to one of his friends, and they essentially ‘roleplay’ as them (sounds cheesy and it can be at times but its mostly improv comedy type stuff, no one tends to take it very seriously until someones character dies) theres three (technically four if you count the aprilfools video) seasons currently and its all very /very/ stupid and fun. if youve at all heard of the snapcube fandubs or hlvrai, its got a kinda similar vibe to those (and actually has some overlap in ‘cast’ with the snapcube dubs lol)
