Scratch tutorials

Look at Scratch. Look at the majority of the projects. Stuff like memes, anime and stuff like that. I'm not saying everyone's project is like that. But I think know the reason why. When you start a Scratch, there are only basic tutorials. After some time, the Scratchers are on their own. Self taught scratchers know that frustation. I'm not 100% self taught. I learnt some basics at school but got bored at the fact that the pace was too slow so I came here and I am teaching myself some stuff. Scratch should include more and more and more tutorials, (Like platformers), and a whole range. If this site is aimed at 6-18, for a 18 year old, the tutorials are just not enough. He then has to search and go through the frustation of viewing some not working tutorials. If Scratch places more and more and more tutorials, Scratchers won't get bored and just post anime. I'm not saying after this, everyone will focus more on programming. #Letsmakescratchforprogrammingnotfanstuff!

I mostly support this idea.

Yeah, it is kind of annoying that Scratch only includes basic tutorials like “Make a Dance Party”. It would be nice if they talked a bit more about string manipulation or platformer engines.

Take anything I said more than one year ago with a grain of salt.

*Sigh* A couple of things: 1. The tutorials are supposed to make it easier to start with the language. 2. Scratch is trying to make a whole range. 3. The site is actually aimed for 8-16-year-olds. 4. The tutorials are supposed to work (Scratch is supposed to do that). 5. Scratchers can easily not got bored by making projects and doing creativity.

I agree with TheAdriCoolManDude. No support. The tutorials are meant to start Scratchers off. If Scratchers start being able to just look at a tutorial for all types of projects then they will never learn to problem solve with code.

If Scratchers want to learn to problem solve, they could have more tutorials that include problem solving. Have you ever used Khan Academy. In Khan Academy, it teaches you in a way where YOU also have to problem solve. “The tutorials are meant to start Scratchers off”, that is where I found the problem. The starting off is way too basic, and it doesn't even have tutorials for lists.

You might sigh because you are only nine. Okay, so its aimed at 8-16. What about 16 year olds? Don't they want to learn about lists and all?

I agree with you we need tutorials for some older Scratchers… we need some that explain harder concepts like lists and cloud data. It's kinda strange that the wiki has such tutorials for those but not the main program. so Support… (im mostly self taught too…)

I support. there's this big void in scratch between very inexperienced users and coding experts- it's hard to learn much more than the basics as most of the user-provided tutorials are very advanced. We need tutorials that can help bridge that gap.

You are very right! Lists, cloud variables, and other stuff are so useful…

You mean the one that isn't visible anywhere on the main page and has almost never been mentioned?

I support you. Starter projects only tell you basic you have to use other guides on the internet.scratch should at least have links to guides.

Honestly, I think people should learn to problem solve on their own, not with a bunch of tutorials!

Yep, but cloud variables and lists are one of the things that aren't covered in the tutorials. Plus, you should see Khan Academy, it teaches you more useful stuff, and makes you problem solve.

I know about the Scratch Wiki. But at least, Scratch should direct new people there. It was after three months of my online Scratching when I found out about the Wiki!
