Scratch Advertising

All over the place, you see constant advertising. In comments of projects, profiles, studios, and forums. Many of these comments get replies saying “Please don't advertise.” That's why I came up with a respectful way of advertising.

On a typical website, there are advertisements out of the way. They take up the unused spaces of a website. What if, on Scratch, it was like that too? Except the advertisements were in Scratch related, not some company trying to get you to purchase something.

What Could Be Advertised?

-Scratch projects
-Scratch shops
-Scratch collabs
-Scratch profiles
-Scratch suggestions
-Scratch studios

How Could You Get Something Advertised?

There would only be a few simple guidelines:

-Thing being advertised must have never been on front page (if possible)
-User suggesting must have not been front paged in last three months
-Thing must be age appropriate and follow community guidelines
-No more than one advertisement a week

There would be two topics made by the Scratch Team. One would be called “Advertisement Requests” and one would be called “Official Advertisement Creating Service.” The first topic would be where you could request something to be advertised, and the other topic would be where you could an advertisement designed for you. Of course, you'd have the option to make your own if you wanted to, but if you lacked designing skills you could go there. Approximately 20 advertisements would be advertised every six hours. The schedule of advertisements would appear on the request topic's front page.

“This would ruin the Scratch Website!”

Although I believe this would help discover hidden projects and Scratchers, if you did not like this you could easily change this in Account Settings. You'd have the option to turn them off completely, or select areas of Scratch you'd be okay with having them. No matter where they were they would never get in the way.

How Is This Different From Getting Featured?

Not many get featured. With this method, more people will be able to get their stuff seen.

Let me know what you think of this idea!!

No support, seems like too much trouble. There are better ways to get attention than advertisements.

Also, the thing with advertising projects seems quite a lot like curated projects.

No support. Imagine the trouble for the Scratch Team- also, it could be seen as picking favourites. However, if there was a limit to advertising (not advertised in the last month etc.) then maybe I would reconsider.

Semi-support if ads don't run on project pages, and can be turned off in account settings.

Semi-support.
I can see this as useful, but this is kind of what the featured sections are for. This is also why the Show and Tell forum exists.

Not support. Nobody wants people saying “Hey, check out this WAY BETTER GAME! (insert link to a terrible game here)” on YOUR PROJECT. That will make people not view YOUR project, making you one of those people that rarely get 2 views.

And stuff in the show and tell forum get so many views. I agree on the featured project part though. (I know I already said no support but I just get really annoyed when people say ‘advertise in the show and tell forum’ when it barely does anything without regular bumps. Im kinda a hypocrite though as I say that myself )

No support- this would ruin scratch.
The ST makes sure that this website is ad-free, this does not just mean ads for other sites; it also can mean projects.

I would also get distracted by the possible colors on the ads, because the rest of the site is white and blue.

The only place I can think of where advertisements would fit the Scratch website would probably be on project pages in the sidebar with the list of studios and remixes, the front page as a new row, the explore page as a new tab, or the forums below the new reply box.

I'd imagine the user would be able to select a project/studio to advertise, and perhaps upload custom images.

I personally like this idea, (probably because it would be useful to me!LOL) though the haters might not have read the whole post, but it siad and i quote

if you did not like this you could easily change this in Account Settings. You'd have the option to turn them off completely, or select areas of Scratch you'd be okay with having them.

So… if you hate this idea, and it does come to fruition, just do that, and don't be a hater of an idea that may or may not become a reality.

What is a Scratch Collab?
A scratch collab could count as any of these except for the ones i strikethrough'd:
-Scratch projects
-Scratch shops
-Scratch collabs
-Scratch profiles
-Scratch suggestions
-Scratch studios

If that was a feature, them most people would probably just turn them off anyway as not only are ads irritating, they lag a lot of old computers- this means there wouldn't really be much of an audience for these adverts, so they wouldn't work.
No support.

I agree with this, and also this would attract more attention on the advertised project while one is playing a project, this would distract them.

You misunderstood what “ad free” means. It ins't for advertising other companies, but project, studios, profile etc. themselves, things that are in-scratch.

Please do not advertise here- go to the Show and Tell forum to advertise.
