When a character doesn't like who they are and then goes on this adventure to realize being themselves is okay.
There are a couple movies/books/etc. with this kind of plot that are actually quite good, but a lot of them are just overdone.

Developing a whole cast of characters to be all unique but suddenly the main character gets thrown into some alternate place within his mind while the people he loved show up and say mean things about him that the real characters wouldn't say but still make sense based on the story and it really gets to the character
