Any Idea How to Contact Valve?

Due to possible future copyright infringements, I would really like to contact Valve to get the O.K. for an animation series.
(Yes, I know people make those sort of things anyway, but I'd prefer not to risk a cease and desist on my metal behind.)

Anyway, the same goes for Hasbro. Do you have any idea how to contact them for this sort of thing, and if so, could you link me/tell me how? Thank you!

I contacted a musician named Stephen Rippey. All I did was searched his name, found his website, emailed him, and was responded to in some hours. He said he himself was perfectly fine with me using his music, but the music was technically owned by Microsoft. If I would have to fully legally use it, I would have had to get licensed, which is a pain in the coconut.

So I guess you can either get an O.K. By the creators or actually get licensed by the, uh, whoever owns the animations. Though I'm not sure about licensing for animations…

And what does Valve even have to do with animations? I thought they make Steam.

Maybe an animation series based on one of their games. (Portal, I guess)

Yup.

Well, thank you, but my issue is actually finding the contact info.

Try looking on the website. I'll check for you if you want.

If it's 1 or 2 people who you need permission from, that's easy, but large organizations just send licensing information always 0_0 I suggest just claiming Fair Use

Well, after about 2 seconds of Google I found this page. In the drop down menu there is a “Contact Valve” option.

Also, just so you know most of the team who worked on Portal has moved on to the TF2 and Dota teams. It's probably not best to contact them, but if you see a guy on the list who worked on Portal, try asking him/her. (Some of the higher-ups like Gabe Newell or Robin Walker also respond to their emails frequently, so you can talk to them too if you want.)

As for getting Hasbro to respond back, that will be a bit of an harder task. If you do get a response, it will likely be a big “no.”

Don't forget that if you make the characters a little bit different from the originals, it can be classified by US law as a parody.

Yeah, that's what i thought… I know Valve is usually fine with these things, but Hasbro is a PAIN. I'm hoping they'll cut me some slack because I'm not an adult…

And parodies would mess up the storyline a bit and not be quite as good, so I'm hoping we might be able to come to some sort of agreement…

Just a warning with Hasbro, I went to them to get a copyright allowance not too long ago.
Lets just say they are extremely harsh over this kinda thing.

If you go to their website, http://www.valvesoftware.com, on the top right corner there is a button that says contact. If you put your mouse over it, there is a drop-down menu, so click on general contact info. Hope that helped.

hey bro that's a pretty good meme xD!

You'd think they'd be, you know, flattered…

Unless you're going to sell or otherwise profit off of your animations, I'm pretty sure you don't really need their permission.
Take Youtube or Deviantart- it's not like people have to ask Valve for permission everytime they upload a flash cartoon. The same here with Scratch.
I mean, if you want to ask, that's fine, but don't exhaust yourself over an effort to do so.

My signature was a really funny gif of Red wiggling her eyebrows, but I left it for a few months and it got taken down. Pity.

I'd rather not have a cease and desist (and Hasbro can be pretty bad about it). The main purpose is basically so I can give DVDs via Etsy to Portal Wars members who otherwise couldn't watch it (or just want it anyway :3). But you're probably right. In any case, I won't bother Hasbro, but I'll ask Valve.
