Dress Up Today Magazine

Hi there! I'm xVanyx and have been sharing dress up games on Scratch since around two years. Inspired by the many awesome Scratch newspapers, I decided to start my own in the form of a fashion magazine: Dress Up Today! DUT is created and supported by a team of Scratchers dedicated to quality entertainment on one hand and helping community on the other.
For the next issue (March), we'd love to have you take part! For details on how to apply, read below.
Several issues of Dress Up Today are already out. You can read issue no. 2 here and Issue no. 3 here.

Table of Contents:
1) Available Jobs, Job Descriptions, Job application form
2) Advertisements, Advert application form
3) Help section
4) Index of participants

1) Currently open jobs:
  • Article author for “tips for unique and diverse games”
  • Author for: art
  • Author for: fashion
  • Author for: coding

Closed spots: Beta Reader; interviewee
These spots are closed until the release of issue no. 4 or until a team member resigns.

Job descriptions:
Article Author: Write an article for Dress Up Today; themes can include (but are not limited to) fashion styles, art styles, drawing tutorials, coding methods, advise on dress up games, things you learned on Scratch. (Word count from between 50 to 300.)
Interviewee: If you've shared at least three dress up games, you are eligible to get interviewed. The interview will contain mostly questions about Scratch, your games and their development. (Nothing private.)
Beta Reader: As a beta reader, you get to see an article or entire issue of Dress Up Today before it's officially released so you can check for grammar, spelling and punctuation. To become a beta reader, you need to have joined Scratch at least a month ago.

Job Application Form:
If a job you want is taken already, you can apply in advance for the next issue.
Name: (your username)

Scratching since: (the date you joined)

Wanted post: (beta reader, author (what article?), interviewee, etc.)

Participation: (one time only, for the next few issues, etc)

Credentials: ((optional) why you think you'd be good for the post)

2) Adverts:
You can put up a free advertisement in Dress Up today. It can come in many shapes, display pictures, and include up to ~20 words.
The advert can be for your profile, a project, a studio, or something outside of Scratch. (It still has to be appropriate by Scratch standards, though!)
All adverts are for free, but I'd appreciate a shoutout for Dress Up Today in return. If you don't want to, that's okay. Your advertisement. will still be included.

Advert Application Form:
Name and type of the “product”: (Profile, project, studio, etc.)

Advert form: (Banner, thumbnail, etc. See previous issues for available adds.)

Link to your product: https://scratch.mit.edu/xxx/xxxxxxxx/

Text/ picture: (This is what will be included in the advert.)

Give Feedback: Speak your mind about Dress Up Today and offer suggestions. This way, you can help us improve our magazine and make it more enjoyable for you and your friends.
You do not need to apply or fill out a a form to do any of the above. Just share your questions/ feedback/ advise in a comment or forum post.

Hi Vany,
you asked me to write my article here so… here it is.
————————————————————————-
Fashion style of the day: Pastel

Pastel is a style that is based of very light colors. Colors such as green, pink and blue are very popular in pastel. Pastel colors often add a sense of cuteness to what ever is colored with them. For the clothes to be “pastel ”the shape of the clothes doesn't really matter as long as the colors are bright. There are a lot of different variations of pastel, such as casual and goth.

Thank you very much! Your article is awesome . I love your writing style and that you also included links to two so different pastel dress up games. It really shows that pastel clothes come in many different styles and shapes ^__^.
There is nothing I would criticize, but maybe you could make the article longer? Doesn't have to be, though. It's good the way it is.

In the end, I might edit it a bit so as to fit with the rest of issue two, but we'll see about that once all articles are written. (This is one of the first ones. You're really fast ^__^.)

Once again, thank you a lot for participating!

If you don't want to write an article or think you're not good enough, you can also simply suggest a theme/ topic. Don't be shy .

Hi, jinxaccio6793! Thanks a lot for your application. It seems like you're great for the job. We already have one beta reader, but a second one certainly won't hurt . Apart from fixing spelling and grammar mistakes, you can also make suggestions about what parts of an article should be cut/ expanded or how to make things easier to understand - however, that isn't mandatory.

I'll send an article to proof read to you soon .

Issue no. 2 of Dress Up Today will be out next week. Yay!

Before that, though, here's a quick update:
I reworked the first post, rearranging it, adding additional information and application forms. I've also taken to updating the first post to reflect the current participants, open posts, etc. So, for future updates look there.
On the topic of open posts: All spotsfor issue no. 2 are now taken, with exception of the author position for the article on how to make games more unique, creative and diverse. The article can be anywhere between 50-300 words, though more than 50 is appreciated. (See first post.)

Many thanks go to jinxaccio6793, our new beta reader, and RomaniM, who I had the pleasure to interview! Both their efforts will be included in the next issue.

Till then: Happy New Year, everyone!

I suggest we make the second issue on drawing in vector. I would be happy to be interviewed, edit, or write an article for this topic.

Thank you very much for the suggestion! That's a great idea and I'd be very happy to give you the author spot . Would you like to write an overview and a beginners tutorial for the vector editor? Or do you have something different in mind?
If you want, you can also keep your job as a beta reader. Of course, if that is too much work for too little time, you don't have to. (I hope to share the next issue in approximately a month.)
Once again, thanks!

Also, to anyone else reading this, we now have a Dress Up Today Dress Up Today studio. Feel free to check it out ^__^.

I can do it all though I may not be able to get on sometimes. That's a great idea, and yes that's what I was thinking of lol. Here is my article's first draft:
Drawing in vector is an easy way to make fun, original, and unique shapes in your drawings. I'll go over a tutorial to begin drawing in vector.
First, open up a new Scratch project. Click the scissors icon at the top and delete the cat sprite. Depending on what you want to draw, you can either make a new sprite or stick with the background. If you're planning to do a drawing and then add a background behind it, I suggest you open up a new sprite. It can be very frustrating to maneuver a background behind your sprite.
Second, once you've made your decision of background or sprite, go to the “Costumes” tab. In the bottom right-hand corner will be a button that says “Convert to Vector”. Click this button.
Third, think about what kind of project you want to make. If you want to make a speed draw, animation, or game, it's helpful to look at a tutorial after reading this. If you just want to showcase some art of yours, that's great because that's what I'll be doing. If you're making a speed draw or animation, do not follow along and do this right now.
Fourth, draw a circle with the tool found on your right. The circle is commonly used in vector because of its easy flexibility. Stretch it to fit what you are drawing. It's okay to have multiple circles. Don't try and fit your whole shape into a circle.
Fifth, the second to the top button on your right has an odd symbol on it. If you scroll over it, it should say “Reshape.” Click this button. Immediately, a number of clear circles should appear on the circle you have made. You can click and drag these circles to transform your circle into something different–a lamp, a bunny ear, it's your call. Make sure the shape is one that you won't need to move around later. If you put things on top of your circle, it's very hard to position them right again. If you see a space with no clear circle, you can hold that line down with your mouse to place another circle there. This can ensure more preciseness. It's the same with a circle you want to remove. Hint: Don't go crazy on the reshaping.
Sixth, click the paint bucket button and a color. Then color in your circle in the desired color. You can also color in the outline.
Seventh, repeat steps four, five, and six until finished.
Eighth (optional), make a background. Challenge: Do your background in vector.
Ninth, title and share your project! And feel free to comment on the Dress Up Today forum at https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/229628 or on any of our profiles, like @jinxaccio6793

Thank you very much! Your article is awesome! It's precise, clear and contains all information without even having pictures.

Having mentioned that at the end is entirely okay. I mention our forum throughout the second issue, too. We'll have to see how it fits into the entirety of the magazine at the end, though. It would be a bit redundant to mention it right before the “Take Part” section, which already contains a link to the forum, for example. As for your name, it will definitely be stated and linked at the beginning of your article, so don't worry .
