You should be eligible if from the USS or not. I will allow you to participate, and allow the voters to determine if you are a great choice.

Your declaration has been acknowledged.

EDIT: Reminder to everyone - four days left to declare leadership candidacy! If you have any questions, just ask!
You recognize my name probably since I unofficially voted. Also, I would like to make a campaign banner and a speech. Am I allowed to do that? And also, is there an official election post to list all the candidates and their speeches, campaign banners, etc.?

Thank you,

Right now the post that announced the declaration process is serving as a temporary list. I might start a new post when needed.

MasterOfTheTiger's Speech
Hello! This is MasterOfTheTiger, and I am running for president of the United Shop of Scratch. Many of you know me, but others might need some clarification. I am simply a kid on Scratch that loves to help out shops. I am less involved in working at shops now, but occasionally I see a shop that needs help and apply to get it started.

Experience
I have good experience both with leading shops and working with them. I have worked a many shops over the last year or two, but more importantly, I started a couple of shop-helping collaborations. The first, Triple S:

Triple S was a shop federation (like the USS and the SPA) that focused on small shops. It became pretty successful as well. There were major improvements planned to make it a abetter place for small shops. However, things turned for the worse because I had to leave for a few months and all my helpers were inactive in Triple S. It is now closed due to this.

I also started another collaboration to help shops called (accurately enough) the Shop Helpers. It was something that started off well and then withered away after a short amount of time (similar to the seed that fell on rocky soil). It was a all around way to help shops. We started with a directory for workers (rather than a directory for shops). You could put in your own portfolio and links were available on the front page to the individuals. As a subsidiary SH Orders was started. It was a simple shop that did not do any orders. It simply took orders and gave them to multiple shops. It did not do well because of the lack of support from others.

Technically the Shop Helpers is still open (though very inactive), and I have some plans for it, and hope to partner with the SPA to get it rolling again (including some ideas to turn around the decay of the requests forum. More on that later).

I have owned multiple shops in the past. The first one I started shortly after discovering the requests forum. It was a simple store to get cloud data help. It did not do too well due to lack of demand. After that I worked with other shops and then decided to try again with Tigerstores. It started out well and got a ton of inactive members, but very few orders.

More recently I started something called In and Out. It did extremely well when I started it, but has slown down a bit. Its goal is to complete each and every order in less than 48 hours. It uses measures not taken by any other shops to keep staff on focus.

A few months ago I started MasterOfTheTiger's shop. It is a slow paced shop that does anything it can help with. It does not take many orders and does not have many members, but it does orders realistically and well. Both MasterOfTheTiger's shop and In and Out are currently open.

Plans
I am a strong supporter of Scratch shops in general, and I hope to fix many of the problems that we are currently facing. There is rapid decline in the overall well-being of shops probably in part due to the removal of the Discuss button. There are less and less people going to the Scratch Forums at all, much less the request section. I have plans to reverse the course.

More will be posted later.

My Speech: USS For The Better
Hello. I am sti_scratch, and my aim is to make USS much more than a shop list. Much more than a place to feature your shops. Much more than just some long post with shops in it. We're making it a place to help shops. To kickstart small shops. To provide advice to make shops big. Making it helpful, and therefore better. Now, let me explain how I am going to do it.

1. Create a way for them to reach out to us! We need to create the appropriate forms to ask for advice, so they can just fill out the form and the shop's watchers will go to the shop thread and give advice to them. Of course, that needs skilled watchers, so starting from the beginning of my leadership, watchers will have to answer questions for us to make sure that they can provide sufficient help to shops. Which means that they will not be called Watchers. They will be called Shop Advisors.

2. We will also determine a way for us to reach out to them! Shop Advisors, of course, are watching the shops they are assigned to. If they realize a way to boost the potential of the shop, they can reach out to the shop themselves! They will be able to post in the shop thread and inform the shop of it.

3. Regular activity checks! I will conduct monthly activity checks for all USS staff members. I can sense you wonder, how about the shops? The Shop Advisors' job is to routinely watch the shops they are assigned to, so they would know if the shop has neglected an order for long. The Shop Advisor does not need to post anything along the lines of “Activity Check, reply to this post” since they can simply monitor whether an order has been taken or not.

4. That's good and all, but how about if the leader himself becomes inactive? I will assign a replacement leader that will have to respond to monthly USS staff activity checks (if they do not, they might be replaced), and I will have a link to their post that they can edit i the first post only to inform people of leader inactivity. So, if I become inactive, the replacement leader will notice the inactivity and edit the post and inform people that I am inactive, so if people wonder whether I am inactive or not, they can click the link on the first post and be sent to the replacement leader's post. Alternatively, I do not have to assign a replacement leader. The secretary could do the jobs I said above.

5. Okay, good! Now does my future leader here have the experience? Yes, I do have an experience working with shops in general. I am currently the Chairman of Wafflestores (in which I announced the results of an activity check before the Owner did), and the Owner and Chairman of The Collaborative Union of Shops, which is a small shop union that I tried making because I wanted to help shops (in which I did what I said in number 1 and number 2 above, except that I was also the Shop Advisor). Plus, I am a former worker at Glitterstores.

Now, remember, you're the one voting for the future of the USS. It's in your hands. This is your chance. USS for the better!

I look forward to hearing about your plans in the future!

Opinion: It is nice to see that you're experienced with working with shops in numerous situations, however the fact that some of them closed may be used against you. I believe you have great intentions with the USS, but right now I do not know what your intentions are. With that said, when you provide a blueprint, I'll have a better and more well-founded opinion on your leadership campaign.

Over-growth was likely a cause of our sudden decline; we reached 50 shops and shortly after we fell down to our recent numbers. I agree with “the larger the better” idea, however I am a little cautious with having a large system.

sti_scratch wrote:

I like the idea of a systematic support system, but I have an underlying feeling that advice shouldn't have to be done through forms. They can just ask.

Although, that does sound efficient and organized, so I'm not dissing that suggestion.

I support this mentoring-like system.

Will the position currently known as secretary, or the person who hosts votes and such, still function under this new system?

I'm a bit confused with this. Are you saying that the main post will be linked to a temporary post? This sounds interesting, but I would like to fully understand how it works first before I throw in my support.

Opinion: Your speech has everything included, except for your experience. The fact that you don't have a background in the USS may be a drawback, but do you have experience with working in the Requests forum in general?

Note
I will not say who I am voting for in this upcoming USS election, however I am providing neutral feedback. I hope both candidates take that feedback to create a perfect speech, and I hope voters respond to these speeches with responsible and honest votes.

It's a bit interesting that what one is missing is what the other candidate has.

Reminder
I would like to remind everyone that I am not quitting the United Shops of Scratch, but I am quitting my position of co-leader. I look forward to continuing on working with the community, however at a lower tone.

Another reminder: Those who wish to seek leadership of this organization has until Saturday, which is three days, to announce their interest in the position. We are not limiting ourselves to just two candidates. The more competitors, the merrier.

No, when I was saying “Much more than a topic with a 350-line-long post with shops in it” I wasn't meaning that I want to make that post longer. It meant that I think current shop unions are only shop listings and do not help shops that much. And that fact is what I wanna change. I do know that a shop union that is too big is hard to manage,

I want to implement the change because I want to make sure shops are active, but I think activity checks may be a little distracting, and it is also very easy to respond to activity checks but completely neglect orders.

I think the main reason for declining is the overall lack of benefits. The same was with TSF. We need to come up with something genuinely unique that will actually help shops.

-XxX-MEOW-XxX-'s Speech

Hi, I'm -XxX-MEOW-XxX-, and I'm running for president of the USS.

About Me
I'm a human who's been on Scratch for about two years now, starting on Meowmeow2006. -AwesomeAdcanced- introduced me to the forums and I took an employee spot at Sigton's Shop. I didn't really take any orders there because I couldn't do anything at that point. Later, I learned how to do art, BBCode, and programming, so I made my own shop called “Meowmeow2006's Shop.” It was mainly spam (*cough* -AwesomeAdvanced- *cough* and me *cough*), so I made a new account and started another shop called “The Meow Shop - Get Your Orders Done With Awesomeness!” It was very successful, and currently has over 75 pages as of right now. That shop became apart of the USS at about 10 or 15 pages. I've really liked the USS, and now, seeing Austinato go, it makes me want another great leader. So, I'm running.

My Plans
I have a few plans for the USS, and here are the main ones. Regular Activity Checks- I agree with sti-scratch with this one. If one member or shop is not active on the USS (or in general), then they would (unless under special circumstances) have to leave the USS. Watchers- I also agree with sti-scratch about this one, but instead of having only one shop to watch, watchers would look at a group of USS shops, I'd say about 2-4 shops. Watchers would do the following:
-watch selected shops and see how they’re doing
-bump selected shops that haven’t been bumped for a while
-give feedback to selected shops
Suggestions- I want the USS to be more than a shop name on a list and posting “here” every now and then. I want it to be a place where people actively participate in. I want it to be a place where people can get tips and advice to make their shop better. So, I was thinking that people could suggest how to do different things better, how to make shops more organized, etc.

Those Are The Pros. Here Are The Cons
-I’m busy with math team and band, so I won’t be on Scratch as much as I was in the past
-I don’t have too much experience with stuff like this, but I have some.

I hope that you will consider voting for me! I am determined to make the USS a better forum for shop owners, representatives, watchers, and any scratcher who happens to come across the forum. Happy Scratching.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to be owner of the USS. I think I'd be a good person to run it because I am on scratch for 2 hours or more a day unless I'm away and I'm very active. I am also very organised.

I would like to run the USS because it would be a fun experience to run a really active shop Federation.

Things I would do to make it better and active
  • Do regular activity checks, every 2 weeks and give people a strike if they don't reply
  • I would update the description regularly
  • I would also add watchers and helpers and more positions

About me:
I am a young girl who lives in england, I enjoy reading and acting. My favourite food is macaroni and I really like cherries and pigs.

Thank you for reading ~Cherry

Announcement
Hello everyone. Upon my analysis of the United Shops of Scratch, I doubt that this shop union will last. The reason being its reputation. A lot of people know and remember the times when co-leader Austinato became inactive twice (or maybe more, I do not know), and I feel like it is ruining the USS' reputation. I am not a skilled Public Relations officer that can recover anything with a bad reputation.
With that said, I will not continue running for the leader of the USS. I want to help people, and shops, but I want my help to benefit a lot of people, or shops, and I doubt that the USS will continue to gain more shops. Though if the USS does last, I might be able to give pieces of advice to the future leader. Though if I am allowed to vote, I would vote for XxX-MEOW-XxX since in my experience, he has been active and updated on things, and doesn't bite off more than he can chew. (By the way, I had to give MasterOfTheTiger a strike at Wafflestores (I am the Chairman) since he wasn't active enough.)

Good luck,
sti_scratch.

Opinion: Your speech has everything included, except for your experience. The fact that you don't have a background in the USS may be a drawback, but do you have experience with working in the Requests forum in general?
Yes. You may see what experience I have in my speech, I edited it to include my experience.
Okay. (To both.)

About Me
I'm a human who's been on Scratch for about two years now, starting on Meowmeow2006.
Nice introduction and background info!

My Plans
I have a few plans for the USS, and here are the main ones. Regular Activity Checks- (snip) Watchers- (snip)
Suggestions- (snip)
I support all of these ideas.

Those Are The Pros. Here Are The Cons
-I’m busy with math team and band, so I won’t be on Scratch as much as I was in the past
-I don’t have too much experience with stuff like this, but I have some.
As long as you strive to remain more active than I was (lol), you should be great!

Opinion: Your speech was concise and accurate. I don't see anything missing, but if you do, go ahead and add it!

Things I would do to make it better and active
  • Do regular activity checks, once a week and give people a strike if they don't reply
My main concern is that activity checks every week could become tedious.

Okay.

  • I would also add watchers and helpers and more positions
Filling positions is great.

Do you have ideas for new positions?

Opinion: Your speech is short and concise just like -XxX-MEOW-XxX-'s. I just have a few questions (seen above) and can you give some short background info?

Though if I am allowed to vote, I would vote for XxX-MEOW-XxX since in my experience, she has been active and updated on things, and doesn't bite off more than she can chew. (By the way, I had to give MasterOfTheTiger a strike at Wafflestores (I am the Chairman) since she wasn't active enough.)

Good luck,
sti_scratch.
Thanks for seeking interest in leadership of the USS, and I understand why you're departing from that interest.

You may vote. Voting should start by Monday, and I'll count this then.

  • I would update the description regularly
  • I would also add watchers and helpers and more positions
