It's been in progress since 2020 (if I remember correctly). According to post #3729, dark mode is complete, just not available.
As far as I'm aware, there's no reason why dark mode isn't available yet. The only conclusion I can reach is that the Scratch Team is either lazy or doesn't care.

make it so the header turns white when you enable dark mode, purple does not align properly with dark theme
But white is hurtful to the eyes; people who would switch to dark mode might want a break from the white.
in that case, how about a retro green?
The add on I use just had the top bar set to a teal-ish color, and it works great. There's a distinct contrast between the grey of dark mode and the top bar, and you can easily see the buttons (set to white) on it. It works great, and it keeps a scratchy feel to it.

I'd actually hate that, if the blocks are taller, it'd take up more workspace.

I'd point out the lack of plans for 4.0 but now they apparently are planning to make 4.0 so…

Are we making this a thing? lol

I think it would work best if the ST were to close the topic and post that they are planning on adding it, that would effectively clear up any discussion people want to do while closing the topic.

turbowarp and scratch aren't even the same though. They run projects in very different ways. It's like telling someone to “use snap”

A third party website shouldn't be necessary, especially when many people can't access said third party software

I use scratch on a school chromebook that blocks any useful extensions, so I really need native dark mode for all of scratch. BTW when we say “dark mode” we mean whitish text with a blackish background, not turned down screen brightness.
