Eragon: the best book ever.
I'm partway through the second book.
It's pretty awesome… Isn't there some sort of witch/sorceress named Angela? Cuz I remember seeing that and thinking, ‘That’s MY name!'

I liked the book, but I only got half-way through it.
The beginning was great, but then it got loaded with filler content.

It's an okay book, but the story copies that of the original Star Wars with very striking and obvious similarities. Not really that good of a book, but I guess the later books are alright.

Eragon: the best book ever.
I tried reading Eragon in 7th grade, but the book was long and arduous, so I skipped a huge chunk in the middle. I might try reading it again sometime, as well as the other books in the series.
And man do I want a companion dragon sooooooo badly….

Well, both are based on a concept called “The Hero's Journey”. Same with The Hobbit and a lot of other titles. It's not a new idea, and the writer of Star Wars has said that he has used the concept. I think your age range may be a bit young. I haven't read it in a while, but it's ultimately a coming-of-age story, which almost inescapably implies a target audience a bit older (in my opinion).

Not so obvious – I had to have it pointed out to me! :p You are quite right though that the parallels are remarkable. I haven't read the books in a while, but I would agree that I enjoyed Eldest more than Eragon, though I personally found the resolution of Inheritance less than satisfactory!

I know, but when I first read it, I was in 3rd grade and a huge Star Wars fanatic. I didn't see the parallels at first but I reread it in fourth and then it came to me.Well, both are based on a concept called “The Hero's Journey”. Same with The Hobbit and a lot of other titles. The complaint (it is often phrased as such) is that the parallels are far stronger than simply that of a Hero's Journey.

Pretty much every idea is a cliche nowadays. It's very hard to create an original story. The concept of “The Hero's Journey” is one of the most overused ones. I'm not saying that using it is bad. One must just be careful how they use it.Well, both are based on a concept called “The Hero's Journey”. Same with The Hobbit and a lot of other titles. I'm curious about Eragon, though. I've never read it, but I heard that it was written by a fifteen-year-old. That's rather admirable.

The Inheritance Cycle series are like my ultimate favourite books ever
even if the ending was a bit like LOTR.

Eragon (and the rest of the Inheritance Cycle) is probably my favourite series of all time! The world was intricately crafted, with its own sense of culture and politics. The languages are incredibly detailed as well, many of them even including their own grammar system! Probably my favourite part of the books is the magic system, however. It really presented magic as an art, something that had to be studied and mastered before you can use it to its full potential, much unlike the usual wave-your-wand-and-stuff-happens deal. It felt real enough that it could exist in our world, which is no small feat.
As a side-note, the series is great for older readers as well. I didn't read it until I was in high school and I was still blown away. I highly recommend as one of the essential fantasy worlds, alongside Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

It's terribly written trite. I have no idea how you can even compare it to those two (not that Harry Potter is so great either). The magic system was a joke, the language was a joke. How long ago did you read it? Try again and this time use a critical eye, and you'll see it for what it really is. There's almost no substance, and the plot is extremely generic. It doesn't matter that this story's been done a thousand times before or that it draws a really high number of similarities to star wars. If it's written well enough, that doesn't matter, but for me, it just couldn't live up to any of the hype I'd heard about it. I've read only until the second book. Finished Eragon and loved it, then I think I read ahead to the end of Eldest and a certain character disappointed me so greatly that I kinda gave up.
I love the concept of the dragon riders and the magic system, has been a few years ago since I picked up the books so maybe I'll check them out again sometime.
