I think, though I'm probably just guessing, that the 200 character limit encourages brevity. You usually don't need more than 200 characters to introduce yourself and what you like and do and what you're working on. Short phrases and buzzwords are good. Drawn-out sentences and fancy schmancy decorations probably aren't. Just my two cents.

As a long time Scratcher, I have found new meaning to the name “Scratch”: for me, it means to “scratch that itch”, to come back again and again to realize new ideas in this toy language, even when I'm capable of creating my projects in real programming languages years later. It's a friend that helped me to pursue programming and get me to enjoy its fruit. I'm certain many others who have walked this path as well have grown fond of its importance in their life.

2. What made making a project so hard all of a sudden?? Make it your featured project or something!! Projects don't have a text limit.

My assumption is that they keep it brief to reduce some of the drawn-out stuff on other sites, and to encourage users to try making projects to introduce themselves. Scratch is, after all, about the projects!

He is already aware of this action to prevent spam, but it is not expanding the amount of characters significantly.

Perhaps we could expand the character limit a little bit as an experiment, because there isn't that much spam on Scratch. If there is a significant spike in spam, then this expansion should be removed.
