First Tech Challenge 2013-2014: Block Party
Yesterday, USFIRST unveiled the newest game for this year's FIRST Tech Challenge. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization that organizes robotics challenges at many levels (Jr. FIRST Lego League, FIRST Lego League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition) while bringing students closer to real world engineer “mentors” as well as working with schools to assist students on their way to college in obtaining scholarships. FIRST Tech Challenge is the intermediate level of competition, between the fairly simple nature of FLL (intended for elementary and middle school students) and the advanced FRC (intended for experienced high school students).
This year's game is titled Block Party. It looks to be easier than last year's IMO for a rookie team, but it has many game elements so a team will probably need to choose a few to master. I have an idea for the grabber thing to pick up blocks but I'm not sure how well it will work in reality. I guess that's why we have time to actually test them. I seem to have a bunch of “ideas” but in the short amount of time some of them will probably have to be cut to simplify the robot. Or at the very least, it's unlikely that they will all be used. Currently my main thoughts are for block manipulation and hanging. Maybe I'll work on some prototypes or sketches soon.
Is anybody else participating in this?
