Rename the mod block.

No support.

See why naming the block “remainder” is not wrong.

(I use Java a lot more than Scratch. Java uses %.)

Seriously, the blocks should not be too wordy, it should be short.

% is harder to understand than mod.

This is supposed to be a coding website to get you start for begginers that don't know coding at all.

You know this block:

When i was new, i had no idea what it did. IT actually gives the remainder of those numbers divided.
It should be name like this:
remainder of () / () :: operators reporter
You see, less confusing.
support.
even my dad (who is a professional mathematician) doesn't know about “mods”
change it to remainder, it makes more sense

No support. Modulo is not the same as remainder; google it. Can we have this topic closed?

But read the above posts

It's remainders, not reminders.

In Scratch, “arrays” are called “lists,” even though most programming languages call them “arrays.” A beginner is more likely to understand “list” than “array.” Why can't mod be renamed?
If it ain't broke don't fix it. There are a lot of things in scratch that don't correspond to real programming languages. There are also things that aren't even necessary. I too think Scratch is designed to be introductory and simple, but MIT has done a great job of making some things complicated and some things simple. Consider these:
10^ of (), e^ of (), log of (), ln of ()
Anyone who hasn't taken algebra or trigonometry won't know what they are. I'm a HS graduate and have finished 4 terms of college calculus- within that I think the modulus is an amazing tool. Leaving the name as “mod” should generate curiosity in people to find out what that means. Just because there have been a few posts in ‘Questions About Scratch’ asking about the mod doesn't mean that it's too complicated for beginners to understand it, young or old. Consider this: “mod” or “modulus” isn't even the C++ syntax for this function! The syntax is “10 % 3” for “10 mod 3”.

Ok, so lookie here. Scroll until you find the Age Distribution of Scratchers part. See how most of them are 12 year olds? (I'm sorry if I'm being very rude, I don't mean it.) 12 year olds don't go through High Scholl or College yet. I agree with

. Yes, you can. Also, back to the stats. Some people on Scratch are 4 year olds. No school yet.

Again, I'm sorry if I was extremely rude.

Unfortunately, a Google search for “mod” doesn't do anything helpful:

Perhaps it would be better to name it to something less…confusing?

Apparently, people thinks that their time is very useless that they wasted it correcting my typo. I know what a remainder is, and I have done a lot of English-language math homework, read English math-related books and sites, etc. to know that.

“Mod” is for Modular Arithmetic- not just remainders, search it up, and please research!

Yep. If you do -23 / 7, the remainder is 2 (as -3 * 7 + -2 = 23) . However, in modular arithmetic, when you computer -23 % 7, you keep adding 7 to -23 until it becomes a positive number.
-23 + 7 * 4 = 5
The remainder of -23 / 7 is -2, while the modulus of -23 and 7 is 5.
