It’s such a little thing to weep—
So short a thing to sigh—
And yet—by Trades—the size of these
We men and women die!

Not to be a necroposter, but since I'm adding to the discussion, it's OK, I heard.
Anyways, I could barely finish the series. I really gave up after the Grim Grotto, and just skipped to the end of The End.
Did anyone like the ending of the series?

MAD Magazine did a pretty harsh parody of it, essentially just saying all of the books are essentially just the same because it's just a lazy cash cow and none of the characters have had any development over the numerous books they've had the opportunity to hence making it boring. Also, according to them, Daniel Handler is a rich jerk.
I'm not sure if it's the writer's genuine thoughts or just another example of how they poke fun at every popular thing, but it's pretty aggressive stuff.
I would like to emphasize that THESE ARE NOT MY THOUGHTS ON THE LEMONY SNICKET BOOKS. WHATEVER WAS WRITTEN ABOVE WAS THE OPINION OF MAD MAGAZINE AND ARE NOT MY THOUGHTS WHATSOEVER (well, so far, I haven't even read them yet honestly).

If you're writing spoilers, PROTIP:
Anyway, the problem with these books is that they use such big words, but when I reread the Ersatz Elevator two months ago, it read like a little kids' book.

Personally, it's one of my favorite series. I just now finished Snicket's Unauthorized Autobiography. I think my favorite book overall is The Penultimate Peril.

if you were expecting a happy ending, you picked the wrong series. Not to be a necroposter, but since I'm adding to the discussion, it's OK, I heard.

I finished this series a couple weeks ago. (Spoiler, highlight the text after this to see it): I wonder if the Baudelaires survived the voyage they started at the end of the last book.

They are about orphan kids who have to get through a lot of irresponsible guardians, but can never seem to get rid of the first one, who is said to be related, but really just wants their fortune.
