why does scratch use java script
we will have to trail this back to 1.4, Scratch used javascript aka Snap or some disney coding. This was used from 2007/2009 when it released to 2013, when Scratch 2.0 released. This, on the offline editor that just released this year required Adobe AIR. However, the online editor required Adobe Flash. Adobe flash was a plugin for web browsers released in 1996 way before scratches release but this wasnt outdated at the time. You would need the Adobe Flash plugin to play or make projects online. In late 2015, Adobe Flash began experiencing vulnerabilities and this got mentioned on the Forums many times, from 2015 to 2018. 2017 was when Adobe announced Flash for deprecation, preparing it to be ended at the end of 2020 (December 31, 2020). This was announced July 2017. In order for Scratch to make it securer and (supposedly) align with the deprecation they started launching beta test with Google ( i think) in Mid 2016, with even more tests appearing the year on. In early 2018, tests for the modern Scratch 3.0 released, in a secure updated HTML5/Javascript. Scratch 1.4 didnt use HTML5 though, there was no online editor. To this day, it uses HTML5. HTML5 is updated and has suppodesly no vulernatiblies. So now, Scratch 3.0 released at the very start of 2019 (January 2, 2019). Until December 31 2020, flash was ended and if scratch didnt update you couldn't use it. Scratch went from beta testing of Flash in late/Sept 2012. Scratch 2.0 was released as an entirety in May 2013 after.

Almost every website you see on the internet uses HTML CSS and JavaScript especially since those languages are already installed on your computer unlike Python or some other language.
Without JavaScript, there would be no functionality and the site would appear static.
