The Scratch cloud variable network is very unpredictable. You probably hit a point where it was down.

There is a decent chance that nothing is wrong with your game and the issue is with cloud variables themselves, which are very unreliable. I had some annoying problems with my Tetris project which were eventually resolved just by renaming the cloud variable to something else. I don't know why that would would work (but it did) and that's what I would recommend trying for your project.

Cloud variables do not work and ST needs to fix them.
