It's weird, but really all I'm hoping for in the next game is better graphics. New Super Mario Bros. looks absolutely nothing like the real game, and neither do any of the retro games. Nintendo's normally great about attention to detail, but something about the artstyle just feels… wrong.

That's why Super Mario 3D World has actually become my favourite game style.

Are you kidding me? Are you saying you don't love the upside down underground theme? It even has the generic space background for good measure!

But seriously Nintendo please make the night themes less ugly

I feel they just emulated the artstyle of the sprites. I dont really know if that's what they did or they just copied and pasted from somewhere that had different models or palettes

It's not really the original sprites that are the problem though. NSMBU's artstyle is normally pretty smooth and three dimensional, but in Mario Maker it feels really choppy and flat. Super Mario Bros. also feels way to colourful. For some reason Super Mario 3D World is the only style that feels remotely like the original, even though the characters control completely differently.

It's kind of hard to describe, though.

Maybe Super Mario Maker 2 is the real Little Big Planet 4 (or five)…

Ah. I think SMB1 is considered colorful because of how they probably broke the NES color palette boundary thingy, but im not sure

Whats the object you use in SMM2 the least yet used once? May be controversial but mine is the tracks.

Builder Hammer. I like the concept, but I haven't found many uses for it in levels yet…

The builder suit reminds me that you have to playtest your level a ton just to make sure there's not a single bit of cheese in the level. It's like the link powerup where it can literally cheese everything somehow

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't l like the axe. People never use it, and even when they do, if makes the level feel really anticlimactic. As an added bonus, it wrecks multiplayer too.

I think that they should keep it for just the Super Mario Bros. style and replace it with a regular flag for all the other ones.

I had this really good idea for a level that I just finished the first section of, here's the main gimmick (using the very unusable outside of water level fish bones!)

It's basically just parachuting fish bones in a desert level. I don't want to reveal the layout of the level yet, but I thought this might be cool to look at.

I own both, and I can see where you're coming from. I play the second one way more often due to all the new features, but the original has a much neater interface and certain charm to it that the sequel didn't really maintain. They're both really good though.
