In the context of the Scratch coding platform, “daydreaming” usually refers to a specific concept where a script or project is lagging, frozen, or stuck in an infinite loop without updating the screen, or it refers to a community term for a project that simulates a daydreaming effect.
However, since “daydream” isn't an official built-in block or technical term in the Scratch programming language, it most commonly refers to one of three things:
- 1. Custom Blocks and “Run Without Screen Refresh”
When Scratch users create a My Blocks (custom block) and check the box for “Run without screen refresh,” they are telling Scratch to run the code instantly. If that custom block contains a heavy loop (like repeat 10000 or a forever loop with no wait block), Scratch will freeze while trying to finish the code.
Scratchers sometimes refer to this state as the project “daydreaming” or lagging out because it sits there doing nothing visual for a few seconds before suddenly executing everything at once.
- 2. A Popular Trend, Aesthetic, or Project Title
Many creators on Scratch use the word “Daydream” as the title or theme for their projects. These typically include:
Aesthetic animations or MAPs (Multi-Animator Projects).
Relaxing art projects or music players.
Intro templates for scratchers to use at the beginning of their projects.
- 3. A Specific User or Studio
There are prominent Scratch community members and curated studios named Daydream or featuring “Daydream” in their username. If you saw the word in a comment section, it was likely a shoutout to a user or a studio dedicated to dream-like, cozy, or artistic projects.

It's really nice that you want to help out with a guide! However, we have a number of them in the forums already and we don't have a good way to showcase any more. If you want to make a guide in a Scratch project, that would be fine. You could advertise it in the “Show and Tell” section too.
There are lots of other ways to help out in the forums too. Helpful Scratchers are always welcome in the “Questions About Scratch”, “Help With Scripts”, “Requests” and other sections. Just look around and ask questions
