Is There Any Way to Mass Export Scratch Projects?

I want to try to download my ~750 scratch projects (shared and unshared) and I don't think I can sit through that many cycles of going into my projects, downloading them, etc. Any solutions (websites, *extensions?*, apps)

Oh boy

I don't think I can say that without getting exploded by the Scratch Team

For security reasons, we removed your forum topic “ Scratch SB3 Bulk Downloader ”. It's a cool tool and potentially very useful - but any site or tool that asks for Scratch passwords is too dangerous to be advertised on Scratch. Please don't post links to it on Scratch. Thanks - Scratch Team

The only thing you could probably do is wait for an official feature to be added

Or build one yourself. The Scratch Wiki has documentation of the Scratch API: https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Scratch_API , but this is fairly technically complicated, so make sure you know what you're doing.

Me and another Scratcher already did but it got taken down since it needs your password to get the unshared projects, hence the warning

That doesn't mean you can't make such tools, just that you can't share them on Scratch.

the gdpr has a thing about requesting downloads of your data, so MAYBE you can request a data download through the help center? idk though

you'd probably have to use an algorithm using python that automates the mass download of projects but 750 projects might take the servers down and be considered a ddos which is illegal at least in the us of a which is where i live

It doesn't have to be python, it's also possible to do it using the browser's JavaScript console
(or actually anything that can make requests as if you were logged in, but the browser's console is handy because you can sign in in the usual way instead of having to write code that signs in for you)

It'd only take the servers down if your computer is more powerful than Scratch's servers which is unlikely

yeah but it could be considered a ddos which is illegal in the usa

It can't count as distributed denial of service unless involves many computers doing things at once.

If it's only a single computer, then the servers can rate limit or block it if it causes problems - although that should be avoided, too, so it's better to add some delay between the downloads (idk my computer didn't get blocked when I downloaded my projects, but I used a delay and I only had around 200 projects when I did it)

Plus, it doesn't actually matter whether the computer is more powerful than “Scratch's servers” (which is just AWS as far as I can see), it just depends on how hard you get rate-limited based on the frequency of your requests. The real damage to a server is done from frequency, such as huge botnets where each individual device can be quite weak (most botnets are printers and routers with malware shared through P2P and password-guessing) and each request is garbage data sent non-stop to the same destination where simple IP-address rate-limiting doesn't work unless you're Cloudflare.

Anyways, I used a delay of 3 seconds per project.json (no delay per asset unless error) and I got through all of my 1278 projects without any errors.
