Rest assured my copy of Collision Course for HyperWaveCHIP-64, Pong for CHIP-8 and nestest for NES are all legally dumpedno no i wasn't saying you illegally got them, that message was for others
also you thought of extending to mega drive?

I wouldn't say it's impossible by any means

well.. just a warning they come in different formats (roms) .gen .md and .binalso you thought of extending to mega drive?

Outside of the extension at the end, those formats are the exact same. given wave uses hex strings in general, there would be zero difference when importing them.well.. just a warning they come in different formats (roms) .gen .md and .binalso you thought of extending to mega drive?

Then theoretically if you ported a Genesis cartridge to Wave Emulator then figured a way to port the hex code to a SNES cartridge and then ran the game on a SNES, it could work? I am not very experienced with emulators btw, just curious.Outside of the extension at the end, those formats are the exact same. given wave uses hex strings in general, there would be zero difference when importing them.well.. just a warning they come in different formats (roms) .gen .md and .binalso you thought of extending to mega drive?

just because a rom is in hex string doesn't magically turn it into software that any device can run. It's like putting a PS3 disc into an Xbox One: both consoles use Blu-Rays to store games, but the actual code on that disc is compiled only for the entirely different, architecture, software, and firmware of the PS3. The SNES and Genesis are very different consoles under the hood, and what you're asking for is something more like decomplication & porting (Reverse engineering a binary (the compiled game) back into the source code, if applicable), which also isn't very applicable to this generation of hardware or earlier given many games were written in pure assembly (the console's machine-specific language) at the time as opposed to something like C which got more popular in the 5th generation of consoles. And even once you have the source, you still need to adapt and recompile it for the differences of new target hardware…Then theoretically if you ported a Genesis cartridge to Wave Emulator then figured a way to port the hex code to a SNES cartridge and then ran the game on a SNES, it could work? Basically, no. There's a lot more differences between consoles than just a file extension or controller, and porting games takes a lot more work than just making one into a hex string. All a hex string is in this case is the binary data in a plaintext format.

WAIT can i suggest something if you add Mega drive support? what about a mode where people provide a .sf2 and then the emulator reads the YM2612 data and maps it to a sample from the .sf2? allow full sampled music on a mega drive rom

I wanted to try an actual program that wasn't just a test. Here's what I got.
I couldn't host the picture, so here's the transcript…
I think having access to a filesystem might fix this.

! Pascal Library ill-formed.

Also this is scratch, it's not easy to play arbitrary PCM samples in scratch

GEMS kept the pre-programmed patches within the GEMS software, not within the YM2612 or the game ROM (well, they are in the game ROM if the patch is used), and again, not every game used GEMS. I don't have good reference, but I can only imagine there would be several times more than a billion different combinations, Sure games won't at all use every single possible FM patch, but mapping the samples to different FM patches sounds impractical to me, and could probably only ever be possible if you tailor-made each sample map to a particular game, and again this is scratch, it's not the easiest thing to implement arbitrary PCM sample playback in scratch, and the overhead of figuring out which sample corresponds to which patch certainly won't help at all.1: gems did if i rememberWAIT can i suggest something if you add Mega drive support? what about a mode where people provide a .sf2 and then the emulator reads the YM2612 data and maps it to a sample from the .sf2? allow full sampled music on a mega drive romDifferent games use different drivers, sure 3:I can imagine that some drivers were more common than others in games, but it wouldn't be as simple as “reading the YM2612 data,” well, assuming that you're reading the sequenced data, 2:If you mean by examining the YM2612 registers, then maybe, although that'd certainly be limited, and the way you map the samples would specifically have to be tailored for each game as I'm pretty sure the YM2612 doesn't have 1:pre-programmed patches. well i just thought it would be a cool idea (games like comix zone (kinda useless for this as a example cause it got a gba port and you could if you have the knowledge just replace the sample bank for that) used gems and cool spot if i remember), i'm sure someone out there could somehow someway maybe make a mega drive emu like thatGEMS kept the pre-programmed patches within the GEMS software, not within the YM2612 or the game ROM (well, they are in the game ROM if the patch is used), and again, not every game used GEMS. I need SOMEONE TO HELP ME GET A PREMADE SB3 FILE OR AT LEAST A LINKWhat do you mean by “PRE-MADE”? Like preloaded with games? If so, that's illegal, unless the games are in the public domain.
