hello!! this forum is for anyone part of swc who wants to help out in the unofficial paper plate committee :) swc app season can be stressful and sometimes heartbreaking, so we thought maybe giving everyone a little award for what made their app special could perhaps lift some saddened spirits ;D
if you've participated in swc (or scratch writing camp), feel free to ask to join! we may create a member cap later on if it gets to be too many people, but for now any and all swcers are welcome :)

i think that we maybe should just send them out on profiles? an alternate idea is that we could do a project but sadly I think that it would be a lot of work to put 40+ awards in one project and it might be hard to load T-T

also just wanted to say that I think we should have at least 50 awards or so in case there are more apps then we expected <3
and one Idea I had for an award is most unique theme! I think we could also make some edits to this

yay hiii! i just wanted to say again, that this is such a sweet idea to help applicants feel better during such a stressful time like app season! <3

- i will definitely start brainstorming specific award ideas asap when i have time! as a general thought, i'm thinking we can create awards under categories judging things like creativity, art, answers, graphic design, coding, and maybe even some more whimsy awards like colorfulness, humor, photography, and animations! we definitely can brainstorm more award ideas since we need one for each app haha

- as for the distribution of awards, i definitely understand where melody is coming from– there may be quite a lot of apps! but i think maybe making a project would be better, seeing that it may bring a little more recognition to each applicant and the efforts they put into their apps, rather than a message just notifying that they have won “best art” or something like that lol i don't think the project design has to be too complicated if we decide to do one! we could maybe share a canva (if possible for everyone) and design simple slides with a brief message and congrats on each award? idk if this is a good idea haha, and i'd love to hear what you guys think we can do

- question for eva, when do you plan on having these awards out by? note: apps are due on the 18th with maybe a week for leaders results to come out and then co-leader offers start going out!

Hi!! i just want to say that unfortunately, I can't get Canva so I don't think we could share one </3 and it is true that I think there is more recognition in for the people applying if we did a project so I'm in on that idea sometime soon I could come up with a small list of ideas for awards! perhaps we could make a project and then send links out to everyone who applied so they know they won an award? just an idea <3
also I think that we might want to have awards be a bit more after the deadline for apps in case we need to make more awards if there are more apps than awards we came up with

- in paper plate awards the awards are usually made specifically for the apps I believe, so not usually with a premade list? however I think it would be a good idea to get lots of base ideas so we can reference them when we're making the awards <3

- we should avoid any that compare the app to others definitely, but I think that was already part of the plan bahaha

- I like the idea of making a project, maybe those who want to graphic design can work on the canva together and can send examples of slides to those without canva for edits?

hey all :DD canva sounds good to me (melody that's fine you can still pitch in on other stuff!!) i think the project is perfect, but definitely still messaging people (maybe on profile, maybe on the app itself) to let them know they've won an award and to check it out. something like ‘hello! you’ve won a paper plate to reward your hard work….go check it out here! aaand i'll be answering the questions myself now!

1. i'd love to see some unique ones, like saffron's suggestions and maybe ‘most creative layout’ or ‘most nostalgic theme’.
2. i'd like to avoid general ones like ‘best art’ and definitely not ‘best answers’. i have a feeling that would just cause people who worked just as hard on theirs to feel bad. maybe most adorable/detailed/realistic art, most concise/silly/unconventional answers, etc.

this is overall such a cool idea though!! i can collaborate on canva, and i agree with everything that’s been said so far! as for the deadline, i think we could definitely do it after all the leadership teams are complete <3 i think that’s when people will start feeling down, and it could be perfectly timed to cheer them up!

I'm not sure about ones like ‘best coding’ and ‘best forum formatting’ because yes, most SWCers aren't too interested in coding, but I think that these two aren't really things that stand out about apps. I really do not mean to be rude, this is just my opinion on this <3
I think that ones like ‘most personal theme’ and ‘silliest theme’. I can add more about this later but I don't have time at the moment :'D

hmm i don’t know about best coding— most programs used in apps are similar, and it would be difficult to choose a best code. maybe we could consider this in ‘so complex it broke my computer’? (i love that one haha)

kat i agree!! i wasn't sure about that one anyway, the ‘so complex’ one was better anyway :> and yeah forum formatting was just an idea lol
also also! for the graphic design in the project i was thinking we could have a paper plate decorated with a bunch of ‘stickers’ (canva graphics) that align to their app theme? and i also think we should have a little blurb at the beginning that mentions what else they did well other than the award to introduce it, like ‘this person’s app was incredibly detailed, and the art was breathtaking. they clearly put endless amounts of time into it, and as anyone can see, the payoff was huge! the answers left us hungry to see how they'd do on a leadership team, the graphic design was *chef's kiss* and we loved bopping along to the catchy music…' and then a transition to the paper plate award with the username and award.

i've drafted a message to let applicants know they received an award! this is a pretty long time off but shhh

I love ones like the ‘so complex’ one and ones that are very specific to the app, and maybe kind of silly since they are paper plate awards; they're fundamentally kind of silly.
I love the idea of putting stickers on the plate, it seems like a great way to personalize the awards!!

and maybe if we decide to do a blurb it could relate to the award? like for ‘so complex it broke my brain’ we could do ‘this app was jam-packed with elements, down to the tiniest detail! we loved exploring each aspect of the designs and et cetera’
