So, I guess it turns out that the feature isn't being killed because of the NGP. They are just trying to repair it and make it a legacy feature!

Ohh, NGP will be on scratch.org, so this means they will kill scratch.mit.edu and replace it with scratch.org
So there's a possibility way they can fix it and a few days later they release NGP and it will be broken again (since sharing from legacy Scratch editors is based on scratch.mit.edu)

They plan to make scratch.mit.edu redirect to scratch.org for as long as MIT will them, so that shouldn't be a problem
