Unable to upload from Scratch 1.4

Hi. I'm having issues uploading from Scratch 1.4.
It sends the data and all that, but then it fails to wait for a response, giving me the error “Failed: Unknown reason”
It's worked before, maybe like.. a couple days ago? though now it doesn't wanna work. I've tried reinstalling Scratch 1.4, but it still doesn't wanna work.
Anyone knows whats going on and how to fix this?

Scratch 1.4 is from 2009 lol. Is there a reason you are still using it? If not, try using 3.0.

Scratch 1.4 is quite old, so it might be because it's just outdated. What you can do is making a project in Scratch 1.4, then downloading the project and then loading it in the online editor.

It may run better on weaker hardware. Additionally, the bitmap editor is the best on 1.x (and also you can select any font on your system.)

I decided to investigate this myself- as it turns out, uploading from 2.0 is broken as well. It gives a much more helpful error, though.

Scratch must have done some changes on their end (likely modified the /services/upload/ endpoint that 1.x and 2.0 use), causing uploads from legacy editors to fail.

There's not much that can be done here, these old editors haven't been supported for years and there's no telling if the Scratch Team will push a fix for it.
Save your project, and then upload it to the website via the online editor.

If your project is 1.4, you'll get much better results if you convert your project to .sb2 (2.0) first, and then upload it with the Scratch 3 editor.

Unable to upload from Scratch 1.4

There are some issues with the 1.4 project upload at the moment. Engineering is aware of it and is working on it.

In the meantime, I believe you can still go into a new 3.x project and overwrite it from a file on your computer. This would allow you to upload the 1.4 project, in a round-about fashion.

We all should be glad that https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1047165241 was uploaded in 1.4 directly before this bug.

Scratch 1.4 is some old, so it may be outdated. What is that you can do, Make a project in the Scratch 1.4 editor, download the project, and load it to the Scratch 3.0 online editor.

I can replicate! I tested on scratch 1.4 and 2.0 offline editor

YT link: https://youtu.be/R9MkOsL4mAc (this video uploaded before this topic existed lol)

i know why you can't upload your project from scratch 1.4 editor is because codubee must has modified the endpoint after the endpoint for scratch 1.x and 2.0 offline editor was abused to created almost 4 million projects in just few hours. (Project ID went from 1370.4m to 1374.1m. This happened on August 21st.)

I am getting the same error as well
Well, Scratch Team won't fix it because they dont care about 1.4 anymore

But you can save it and load the saved sb file to the 3.0 editor and share it

My browser / operating system: Android, Chrome 138.0.0.0, No Flash version detected

If you are wondering, I am using Winlator to use Scratch 1.4. Or, try 2.0 or 3.0 instead

probably something to do with scratch's servers

not everyone has modern computers that can handle scratch 3.0, and so use older versions of scratch to scratch on

i hope they can fix 2.0 uploading someday, too, so i can fix my 2.0 project that got overwritten

a scratch team member probablly stickied it

Do you think they could look a way to stop the spam instead of just completely disabling it if the 9th post is true (the problem with doing that is that others can't download the original sb or sb2 file and it will be a 3.0 project instead of a 1.x project)

yea thats really the only thing thats keeping me from uploading my 1.4 projects through the 3.0 editor. i find it really neat that you can still download the original .sb file of scratch 1.4 projects and play the projects in scratch 1.4 just like how the scratcher created the 1.4 projects. :>
