(#961)possibly to 1. prevent ID sniping to an extent, and 2. to prevent people from being able to crawl literally every single project on the website (which, preventing that is probably both a bad and a good thing)
why randomized project IDs? just asking

(#962)wouldn't assigning individual project IDs for each user be better?

take for example, two users:(#964)(#965)
wouldn't assigning individual project IDs for each user be better?
I don’t see what you mean
Alice and Bob.
each of them made their first projects on the same day.
the URL of Alice's first project would be /projects/Alice/1/. the URL of Bob's first project would be /projects/Bob/1.
these two projects are not the same.
if Alice had 10 projects, Alice's 10th project would be /projects/Alice/10/.
this logic works the same for Bob's 10th project.

I'm not sure but the scratch team did say something about Google accounts so we might get that, for some reasonWhat about Google account sign in & student -> normal account conversion?EVERYONE, STOP TALKING ABOUT AI AND THE NGPCorrect.
The NGP will NOT add ai as it is strictly just a update to the website, jot the scratch editor, and 4.0 isn't even going to come out soon and add ai
Once again, NGP is purely an update to the UI. No new features, sorry.

Probably also to prevent people from downloading every project on scratch in a few hours (that is actually quick you know)
Efficiency, maybe some other stuff
Maybe for some security too

“Alice and Bob” Is that a game builder garage reference?

That's A good idea, that would also break the millions of already existing links, and very quickly people could download every project from a user and possibly slow down the server in some way especially when Griffpatch or some other person with 100+ projects is the victimtake for example, two users:(#964)(#965)
wouldn't assigning individual project IDs for each user be better?

Yeah isn't that a bit how scratch ids worked in 1.4? I could see an issue migrating the current links.take for example, two users:(#964)(#965)
wouldn't assigning individual project IDs for each user be better?

2. to prevent people from being able to crawl literally every single project on the website (which, preventing that is probably both a bad and a good thing)I suppose the good with that is preventing third-party AI from training on projects, but the bad is that nobody else can make a Scratch project search that doesn't use Scratch's built-in search engine, so using Google to find Scratch projects when the search is down won't be possible (unless I'm completely misunderstanding how major search engines index websites).
