What exactly are clicker games about and why do I see so many versions of them around? Just curious.

i think they're just games where you click a sprite and it gives you a coin or something, then you accumulate money and buy upgrades to get more money, and so on, very simple idea but kind of addictive once you start
i think people make them because they're pretty simple and fun to make and play, it doesn't require a lot of knowledge or skill, it's a very simple mechanic (i'm working on a game right now that i didn't even realize could technically be considered a clicker game until i was halfway done lol)
oh also they get fairly popular sometimes so people probably make them for that reason too
