Well, it was my second Sonic game (the first on my home consoles was Sonic Mania), and I'm old enough to understand how bad it is now.

Pretty sure it was the original Sonic The Hedgehog but it was the mobile port.
My first REAL console game though was Mania. It was originally my dad's coworker's son's, but he didn't like it so he gave it to me. He was missing out on peak

Actually, that's kind of fair.
I think Forces was one of my first (maybe fourth or fifth Sonic game - Generations, 1, 2, and Mania were the first four). I didn't really like it back then, and I really don't like it now.

Sonic 1 - in my opinion this one is just a classic, I don't know why not Sonic 2 but Sonic 1 is best
Sonic CD - The track here slaps, and the gimmick of time-travel is pretty great. Also the intro is amazing too,
Sonic 3 - Sonic Adventure is filled with a bunch of filler I heard, also Sonic's mouth in this is scary. But it's a good beginning for Sonic 3D, (haven't played Adventure)
Sonic Adventure 2 - hands down Adventure 2, this is probably the best Sonic 3D game in the series. It's very creative and I like the two story perspective thing.
Sonic Heroes - Sonic 6 is HaNdS dOwN tHe BeSt SoNic GaMe, I mean I've heard less hate about Sonic Heroes, although I haven't really played these.
Sonic Frontiers - Very solid game, but I do respect Sonic Forces for at least taking a darker route than other Sonic games, the game idea is somewhat pretty creative in my opinion. But Frontiers is a bit better than Forces
Sonic Mania - Sonic Mania is like one of the best Sonic games of all time, it's an answer you'd probably expect- highly enjoyed this one.

Reasons why I skipped some is I haven't played much Sonic games, I have finished Sonic 1 and CD, and also 2 (but not the final boss that boss is hard as hell).

But most of these are off of my own thoughts about the game
