ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Self Care Weekly ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Part 1: Self-Care Sunday
To kick off this weekly, we're going to start by having a Self-Care Sunday! Despite the name, you can complete this section anytime during the week - simply by taking care of yourself! You can choose to do whatever you want - have a stretch, listen to music, solve a crossword… as long as what you're doing is good for your health, it counts. Make sure to spend at least 30 minutes on your chosen activity, and enjoy the break <3
Part 2: Wellness Walk
Great job with self care! It is now time for you to touch some grass. Go outside and do something for 30 minutes! This can be anything you want. If you're not sure what to do, here are some ideas to get you started:
- Go for a walk/run
- Observe any animals you can find
- Practice a sport
- Make sidewalk chalk drawings
- Ride a bike
And so many more! There are infinite ideas for what you can do outside. Happy travels!
Part 3: Cooking and Coloring and Crafting, Oh My!
Congratulations on making it to part 3 of the weekly! For this section, you'll be either cooking, crafting, or coloring something for 30 minutes. As an extra challenge, try to go the whole time without looking at any screens! If you feel so inclined, feel free to attach a photo of whatever you made at the end (this is of course not required at all). We can't wait to see what you create ;D
Part 4: Journaling Jubilee
Dear diary, guess what?! It’s the best day ever, today, I’m doing… journaling!
As you can probably tell, for this part of the weekly we are diving into the wonderful world of journals. This is something that can come in so, so many different forms, and it’s incredibly unique to you as an individual how you want to go about it. There’s no rules!
However, if you’re stuck for what to do, take a look at some of these possible ideas:
1. Good ol’ traditional diary style journalling - write an account of what happened in your day. Record a snippet into your daily events or experiences: what you did, who you met, how you felt, what you thought about!
2. Gratitude/positivity journaling - list daily things you are thankful for, or that have made you smile that day, to keep yourself grateful for what you have and foster a more positive outlook on how life may be for you at the moment <3
3. Junk journaling - get creative and use any scraps or ephemera to capture an experience or a feeling onto the page of your journal. To incorporate writing, you could write about the meaning and significance of what you’ve created.
4. Stream-of-consciousness journaling - write your thoughts freely onto the page without concern for structure, grammar, or even making sense. Let the writing just be a release of thoughts and emotions.
5. Dream journaling - simply record your dreams as best you can. Who knows, maybe you’ll find something out through your subconscious. This has actually been shown to improve your memory of your dreams and your ability to lucid dream by a huge amount if you make it a regular habit!
You should write 500 words for this part, in whatever way you choose!
Part 5: 2026
Congratulations! You have successfully survived half of 2026. Take a moment to reflect on the last six months. Write 500 words about your highs, lows, favourite memories, accomplishments and anything else you think is worth remembering. Consider how you've changed since January and what you'd like to carry with you into the second half of the year. Enjoy writing!
Anyways, I really hope I did this weekly correctly because it is my first time doing one LOL xD

- For the first part of the weekly, I spent 40 minutes doing a puzzle and listening to music while I did it! The puzzle is Shakespeare themed which is very cool!

- I did in fact go on a wellness walk haha xD I took a walk around the reservoir near my house for 30 minutes, I also rode my bike around my neighborhood for 15 minutes, and I made some sidewalk drawings with saffron

- Okay so I made some cookies! They were red velvet cookies with white chocolate and dark chocolate chips! This took me a little over an hour, and they were actually very yummy! I wish I took a picture of them darn it

- Um for this part of the weekly I hope I wasn't required to show proof. I love journaling so much, so this part was very personal <3 But I counted all my words! Which kind of took a while lol, I wrote 786 words of journaling: traditional diary journaling <3
- Haha so this part was personal as well. But I took this time to write a reflection on the struggles in relationships I've been having recently. It's kind of hard sometimes when you feel like you don't have anyone :') Uh but anyways, I wrote lots of words for this part </3 I wrote 987 words.
Anyways, I really hope I did this weekly correctly because it is my first time doing one LOL xD

“Lu-luuu!”
My ears perked up as my human, Liz, called out my name, and I meowed back at her to let her know I was in the yard. I breathed in the faintly sweet, wet scent of morning dew, and as I bounded through the grass, the droplets scattered everywhere, tickling my paws. “Ha, Luna, you still wanna play?” Liz called, and again, I meowed back, irritated. I was hunting, not playing. Sheesh, I loved her, but couldn't she just get the facts straight? My clueless, confused, sweet little servant hollered back one more time, but finally said something useful.
“Breakfast's ready, sweet girl!”
At that, I streaked inside, tearing up blades of grass, and I was met with the faintly flowery and dusty scent of my house. I walked down a very short hallway, carpeted with a fuzzy gray rug, and turned into the kitchen, with my favorite counter with a marble top - it was my favorite because I could knock stuff off! Liz was there, and I slowed down to a trot to let her stroke my white and silver fur, a warm, comforting feel. I let out a purr, and she scritched my favorite spot behind my right ear - that was a perk of having her. She was humming, moving with an odd rhythm that made her wavy black hair-fur drooping down to her shoulders swish - that meant she was happy. With that, she handed me my breakfast - wet food! I began licking up the rich, meaty, warm stuff and after a bit, finished.
“Where's the rest?” I demanded with a loud mrrrrrrow. "No more, Luna,“ Liz chided me, doing that weird, wavering, ”laugh“ type-thing that humans do. ”And sorry, girl, but no belly-rubs right now, I've got to set up this cool new mirror I got! A complete antique…" Her voice trailed off and she bounded upstairs.
I didn't know what a mirror was…but it sounded like an enemy. I'll have to teach it that I'm the apex predator around here, I thought, elegantly trotting over to the golden, sun-bathed carpet of the living room, much more cozy and soft than the cold, black-and-white floor of the kitchen, which opened into the living room. I thought of hopping up onto the plush navy blue couch or the light grayish armchair, or mayyyyybe chewing on the leaves of the dark green plant…but I was a very, very good girl, and I'd have to prove that to the “mirror”.
And right now, this good girl needed a nap.

"Luuuuuuuna!" Liz called, snapping me out of my dreams. I jolted to my paws with a startled 'mrrow?!', but I relaxed when I realized it was just my human. “Come check out this new mirror!” Oh, she wants me to survey the enemy before battle, alright! I thought, narrowing my eyes as I got up and stretched, then padded across the living room, turned, then streaked upstairs, racing up the tilted stepping-ledges and making a soft pf-pf-pf noise with my paws against the fuzzy gray carpet. I was ready for BATTLE.
I rubbed my scent against Liz, purring, who was standing at the top. "You're so smart, I think you know what I'm saying! Anyways - Check out this mirror," she grinned, her mouth curving upwards - it could either mean she was happy, or tricking me. I bet she was happy for me, I could sharpen my claws on this enemy. She reached into a pocket into her leg-furs and seemingly magically pulled out that weird tiny glow-box, then pointed it at me. Humans are weird, I observed with a swish of my tail, turning around so I could face the “mirror”.
It looked like…me?!
I hissed at the mirror-me and it opened its jaws as well, fur spiked as my coat was as well. I clawed at it, but all my paw met was its paw. Weird battle strategy, copying my every move…I paused, and it resumed the very same position as me, at the same time. Creepy. Pawing at it and meeting its paw again, I eyed it. It looked just like me facing another me…same snow-white fur with silver stripes, same amber eye, same blue eye - but in reverse. Liz was just laughing, and I rounded on her, lashing my tail. “What IS THIS?” I hissed at her, confused.
But then I realized…
The mirror…was me?!

Breaking News || 1000 words
Now
Ruby Weaver watches as a world collapses.
Look what you’ve done! The words tumble through her mind on repeat, her own thoughts accusing her. Look what you’ve done.
It wasn’t all her fault. They hadn’t told her what the device was really capable of. Add Amethyst’s meddling influence to that…
The video ends and she restarts it, not letting herself look away from the destruction. Mountains rise and fall from the sea, and long-extinct creatures rampage through cities that have become a mishmash of clay huts and futuristic skyscrapers. The weather flip-flops from thunderous floods to scorching heat. It reminds her of nothing so much as a fish, thrust out of water, gasping and thrashing for life. It has been shoved out of the comforting river of its timeline and left to die.
Ruby herself hadn’t captured any of the footage. As soon as the anomalies had started cropping up, she’d distanced herself as far from the reality as she could. It was risky, but not as risky as bumping into the wrong person. And accidents of this scale drew the wrong people like vultures to a carcass.
The time-warping technology — sitting innocently in her desk on Primus right now — did this. Such a small thing, capable of so much destruction. And as she watches an entire continent begin to crack apart, she can no longer deny the role she played in this disaster.
Your fault. Your fault. Your fau—
Earlier that week
The news had dried up, and Ruby was restless.
It wasn’t uncommon to go through lulls, even in Mundi. Despite the hundreds of dimensions that made up the multiverse, sometimes there was nothing worth making headlines. At least, not the kind of headlines that the Mundi Courier was expecting. It demanded only the best from its reporters.
She paused, thinking. Then she pulled out a drawer in her desk.
A small silver disk shone up at her as though happy to be noticed, and when she grasped it, thin red lines of light flickered to life across its surface.
She could always make some news.
Ruby stood and, on a whim, input the coordinates for her home dimension. Nothing ever happened in Reality 413. They could stand a little shaking up.
At present
Ruby sends off the message with only a slight pinch of remorse, folding her arms across her chest as she waits. Someone will show up soon, and she suspects she knows who it will be.
She hears heavy footsteps as the Harmony officer approaches, and a familiar voice.
“I knew you had to be involved somehow.”
She doesn’t turn to face her sister, but she can picture the expression on Emerald’s face. Always so orderly. So careful. So responsible. Even as a child, she’d been the one holding her older sisters back, trying to drag them into sanity. It hadn’t worked too well.
“You got the notification?” she asks. Her own voice sounds flat and dead to her ears.
Emerald sighs. “We’ve been keeping a close eye on the tech since we started hearing about it. We’re not entirely sure why Mundi saw fit to hand them out to a bunch of reckless newshounds, but now we have to clean up the messes they made.”
Because someone wanted us to fail, Ruby thinks. Someone doesn’t want anyone to trust the news. How could you, when they could be making it all up?
“I’m going to give you a chance, Ruby, as thanks for the tip,” her sister says. “Turn in the device and stop meddling. In your defense, no one told you what it was capable of doing.”
Ruby doesn’t reply, and a moment later she hears footsteps again as Emerald begins to walk away. “Don’t waste it.”
Then she’s gone.
The video restarts.
Then
Ruby activated the device, watching the lines of destiny spool out before her. There were few loops and tangles in Reality 413, their timeline proceeding along a standard, straightforward course. With a flick of her wrist she shifted a few lines, letting them snarl a little before tugging a few knots out in another place.
She was so focused on her work she failed to notice the slight tugging for a few minutes. Frowning, she pulled the strings back, wondering if they’d gotten snagged on something.
The lines jerked again, harder, and she scowled. Of course. Amethyst must be here too — she recognized the patterns the strings were arranging themselves into. A moment later, her sister tugged again, and she gripped tighter, fingers working to create an intricate chain of loops. They unraveled moments later, but she took the opportunity to unknot several of her sister’s snarls.
Amethyst yanked, and she yanked back, and the strings started snapping…
In the future
Ruby will stand there for a long time after Emerald leaves. Then she’ll close the footage of the ruined reality and input the familiar coordinates. When she hits the port button, she’ll end up in her office on Primus.
She’ll walk over to her desk, hesitating for a heartbeat before opening a drawer. Inside will be a small device shaped like a disk. She'll pick it up, hold it between two fingers. Red lights will dance across its surface as she watches, face inscrutable.
She'll make a choice.
A moment later she’ll walk out of the office, the device sitting quietly in her pocket. She won’t trust it. But neither will she trust the people who want it back. Really, the only person she’ll trust is herself.
They’ll hunt for her once they realize it’s missing. But they won’t find her.
She’ll run, and then she’ll watch, the way she always does, the way she always has. Because someday, things will go wrong again. The device has already fallen into the wrong hands; someday, it’ll find its way into much worse.
Ruby Weaver will leave the sprawling office of the Mundi Courier for the last time. But she'll know this isn’t the end.
It’s only the beginning.

Part 1 - Self Care Sunday (on a Friday)
I read some manga from the library and then organized a bit while listening to a nostalgia/class of 2030 playlist my friends and I have.![]()
Part 2 - Wellness Walk
This week I spent a lot of time outside. I went swimming at a local pool (2 hours), I went to a small outdoor festival (1 hour, 30 mins), and I went out a bit just to explore and have fun (I don’t know how long.) I found this cool lunar moth:
Part 3 - Cooking, coloring, crafting! Oh my!
I cooked quite a bit this week (sadly I have no photos of it.) I learned how to embroider this week so I could make this keychain for my best friend:

Daily 17:
“Hello, and welcome to the Princess Cooking Show. We’re hosts, I’m Belle”
“And I’m Cinderella” Cinderella said “As we could not agree on who to have on the show today, we will not be having a guest”
“But we won’t let that spoil our fun! Today, we will be baking chocolate peanut butter banana cake.” Belle said “Feel free to bake along with us, using the Princess Cooking Show Cookbook! Available now at our website! The first 20 buyers will get a copy, signed by moi, free of extra charge!” Belle said, holding up a cookbook
“It’s also signed by me” Cinderella added
“So, get out the ingredients” Belle said, placing them on the counter “They are all listed in the Princess Cooking Show Cookbook, but I’ll say them as well.
Along with the chocolate cake base (ingredients in the book!), also whip up the peanut butter cake, by mixing your normal cake base (also in the book), with plenty of peanut butter and sliced peanuts, if you like. Also make a banana cake, by mixing blended bananas and banana slices” Belle said, mixing the ingredients together as she spoke.
“If you don’t like peanut butter, you could use sunflower butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or some other type of nut butter” Cinderella said, holding each up to the camera as she spoke “Or if you’re allergic to all of those, just make the chocolate and banana cakes, which will be delicious as well.”
“As well as the normal Princess Cooking Show cookbook, we also have the allergen free version available, which has vegan, allergen free recipes of all the recipes we bake on the show. You can get a signed copy of that one, too.” Belle said, holding up the book
“Anyway, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and grease three cake pans, and fill one with your chocolate banana batter, and the other with the peanut butter batter, and the third with banana cake” Cinderella said, doing so.
“Once your oven is ready, place the cakes in the oven, and set the timer for 30 minutes” Belle said, placing the cakes in the oven, and setting the timer.
“While our cakes bake, let’s prepare the frosting!” Belle said “Make some chocolate ganach, and then make the butter cream frosting (recipe is in the book!), split it in half and then mix peanut butter into one, to taste.”
“Blend a few bananas in your blender, til they’re nice and smooth. Then fold it into your second half of frosting” Cinderella said, doing so.
The timer beeps.
“Once your cakes are done, let them cool.” Cinderella said, donning oven mitts and taking the cakes out to cool.
“While the cakes cool, get out your stuff for decorate, and filling!” Belle said, taking out bananas, and peanut butter cups,
“Take the cakes out of their pans, and slice the cakes both in half.” Cinderella said, doing so.
“Then, begin to stack the cakes. Start a chocolate slice, cover with peanut butter frosting, and then cover with banana slices, and then a thin later of frosting, just so it’ll stick. Then cover it with a layer of peanut butter cake. Cover it with a layer of banana frosting, add some peanut butter cups, and then add thin layer of frosting. Add a layer of banana cake, and then some chocolate ganach, add bananas or peanut butter cups, and then another thin layer of ganach. Then repeat!” Belle said, doing so.
“Then, you can frost it with chocolate ganach if you want, then put some frosting in a piping bag, and decorate with frosting and bananas and chocolate however you like!” Cinderella said, decorating the cake fabulously.
“And finally, cut yourself a slice, and enjoy!” Belle said, cutting her and Cinderella slices of cake.
“See you next time on…”

Once, there was a cat named Courtney. then, there was a monkey named Patricia. and there was also a Panda named Jose. they were all friends.
“What should we do?” asked Jose.
“I dunno.” Said Courtney.
“Patricia, what should we do?” Jose asked.
“I Dunno! why do you expect me to have all the great ideas?”
“‘Cause you’re the one that has all the ideas.” Courtney told Jose.
“So?” Patricia said.
“Because.” Jose said.
“So?”
“Because.”
“So?”
“Because-”
“GUYS, let’s get back on track!!” Courtney hissed.
“Fine…” Patricia said.
“Okay!” said Jose.
“Great. so, let’s go hunt for mice!” Courtney said.
“Okay!” said Jose.
“I don’t wanna.” Patricia said.
“Okay, then we’ll eat mice we caught before.” Courtney said. so they ate mice. and then, they got cooled off in the waterfall. then, they went to see courtney’s humans.
“Hi, humans!” Courtney meowed.
“oh, hi, Pickles!” Said a small human.
“What’s that word they said… Pick…pickles?” Patricia asked.
“Oh, that’s just the other word my humans call me. They call Me Courtney and pickles.” Patricia said.
“Huh, that’s a weird thing to call someone.” Jose said.
“wait… MOM!!! THERE’S A PANDA IN THE HOUSE AND A MONKEY THAT’S CLIMBING ON THE COUNTER!!!” yelled the small human.
“Oh no! Rosemary is yelling!! i think something is wrong!” Courtney said.
“What?!?! what’s wrong?!?!” Jose asked.
“I dunno, but they’re running! i think we have to leave!!!” Courtney Ran out the door.
“Courtney went outside, i think.” Said Rosemary, the small human.
“What about the panda?” said a large human.
“I think it went outside, mom. and the monkey too.” Said Rosemary. “Oh no, what if Pickles Chased them out?!” Rosemary worried.
Meanwhile, Patricia, Jose, and Courtney were outside.
“okay, i think it’s fine now.” Courtney panted.
“How do you know?” Jose asked.
“Because they seemed upset and were running.” Courtney Told him.
“i don’t have a human.” Patricia said.
“Neither do i.” Jose said.
“huh, that’s weird. i thought everyone had humans.” Courtney was feeling curious.
“Gasp! Let’s go on a quest to find humans!” Jose said, posing heroically.
“I’m not sure if there’s enough time left in the story for that.” Patricia pointed out.
“aww…” Jose said.
“That’s true.” Courtney looked at jose sort of sympathetically.
“Well, what should we do before that?” asked Jose.
“Be cute!!” Courtney said. Courtney rolled on her back, Patricia made a cute face, and Jose Sat up and Hugged them both really tight.
“Meow!”
Patricia made monkey sounds, and Jose made panda sounds, because i’m not sure how to type those noises.

daily 17! my emojis were kite, ring, and mountain :>
Faye stared at the ring in her hand. It was gorgeous, but would it be enough to win over a prince?
Logically, probably not— princes were by definition rich; they could probably gaze at a sunstone without so much as a blink. And Lorren was no exception.
But Faye still held onto the hope that her love would be enough. The ring was just a sparkly symbol of love— it didn't matter what it looked like if their love was strong enough.
Right?
Faye gulped and curled her hand around it, stuffing it into her pocket.
She was ready. She could totally do this. She wasn't going to let her nerves slow her down. She was one foot out the door when she realized she had forgotten to wear her hiking shoes.
Faye grumbled and trudged back in to untie her slippers. Fortunately, her hiking shoes weren't very time-consuming to put on, and she was on her way to the mountain soon enough.
Out of breath by the time she got there, Faye greeted Lorren with a wheeze and a smile.
Lorren laughed, her breathing perfectly level. “Are you ready to climb this behemoth?”
“Probably not, no,” Faye said mildly.
Lorren rolled her eyes good-naturedly. “You'll be fine.”
She then took Faye by the arm, sending shivers up Faye's entire body, and led her towards the mountain.
The trek was long, and hot, and Faye wasn't exactly built for athletics— but she didn't mind any of it with Lorren beside her.
Plus, the view was incredibly worth it.
Lorren and Faye stood side by side, mouths open in awe, for a good few minutes.
Lorren, most likely, was actually dazzled by the sky. Faye, though impressed by the beauty of it all, was taking the moment to summon some courage.
“Lorren?” she began, her heart in her throat.
“Mmm?” Lorren blinked, turning her head towards Faye.
“I've, um, enjoyed your presence near me for quite some time now,” she said, stumbling over her words. “And… I'd like to enjoy it for much, much longer. And, er, much more frequently.”
Faye was starting to think she should have written something more poetic beforehand.
“Oh,” Lorren said, sounding surprised. But also happy? Maybe?
“Prince Lorren of the Northern Peaks, will you make me the happiest girl alive?” Faye asked, sucking in a breath. “Will you marry me?”
Lorren's brows furrowed.
Faye panicked internally. She was such an idiot! Why would Lorren ever want to marry her, of all people?
“Can I, uh, take a day to think about it?” Lorren asked, looking confused.
“Um,” Faye said. “I… suppose?”
This was not what was supposed to happen. What was Faye thinking, proposing to a prince?
Lorren proceeded to burst out into laughter.
“Of course I will,” she said between cackles. “Oh, you should've seen your face!”
Faye blinked. “What?”
“I said I'll marry you,” Lorren said, her tone softening. “You idiot. I love you.”
Faye's heart practically exploded.
“And I'm sorry for pranking you,” Lorren said, seeming truly sorry. “I probably shouldn't have. But I couldn't resist, and I think that if you really love me, you would know that about me.”
“I do,” Faye said, sighing affectionately.
“Now,” Lorren said, taking Faye's hand and squeezing it, “What do you say we enjoy this view?”
The prince took out a beautiful dragon-shaped kite, and they held the string steadily together and watched it flutter in the wind.

It was the day. The day that the frogs would learn to fly. I was sure of it. I'd been working on this experiment for decades now, I'd dedicated my life to this project. I was able to finish and make the flying formula function for nearly every other popular animal, but frogs specifically gave me a challenge for whatever reason, which frustrated me greatly for years. Today, though, I told myself that I'd be able to find the substance of which would make the slimy subject finally have the ability to float around like the others. I stopped my alarm clock and rolled out of bed. Brushing my hair and teeth, I thought of what may force the formula to work on the stupid creatures I'd had to deal with for so long. I sighed with not having a clue of what I could actually do to have it actually… That was it!! At this point, the liquid had way too many components that it would ever work, so I'd have to take formulas from previous creatures and add onto one of those instead of creating a brand new one from scratch. Howcome I hadn't thought of this ince in the 15 years I'd worked on this specific experiment!? No time for that now, I'd have to get to this matter as soon as I could. I got dressed and dashed to my car, then drove to the laboratory to start on my freshly new idea. I smiled the wholele ride there, singing my heart out (badly) to the radio in the meantime. Once I arrived, I rushed to the enclosures for the other animals to grab the formula from a toad or salamander. I eventually decided on toads. I unlocked the warehouse and special cabinet, snatching the toad's sample. I then recalled what I'd added to some of the more slimy amphibians I'd gifted flight previously, ensuring that I wouldn't accidentally use something that would create a reaction that would ruin my chance. A lightbulb flashed on in my brain, remembering aviander! It was a new chemical I discovered whilst helping the salamanders fly (hence the name), and I knew it had the chance to work perfectly in this. I carefully and precisely poured the aviander into the toad formula, gladly seeing no harmful reactions to eachother. I took my trusty and best frog out of their enclosure, giving him a small sip of the new mixture with high hopes. At first, he just hopped out my arms and back into their room. But a few moments later, possibly a minute, he started floating! Tears welled up in my eyes with the pride of my success that took much longer than it should've, amazed. I efficiently gave the mixture to the rest of the frogs and shut the door with me inside, letting my happiness overflow whilst being surrounded by signs of the opposite of what was forever told to me to be a failure.

bin | clock | eggs
513/400 words
darcy paced up and down the hall to her kitchen nervously, biting on her fingernails. it was nearly time. she couldn’t mess this up. with a deep breath, she took a step into the kitchen, where the bright lights taunted her as they pointed to the dining table. her family looked up from where they were waiting.
“darcy, where have you been?” inquired dad, who, fairly enough, was quite concerned at the absence of his 7 year old daughter.
“yeah, darcy, where have you been?” taunted darcy’s older brother, rick, and she felt a wave of annoyance overcome her as she gingerly took her seat.
“i was right in the hallway,” she explained, “i got distracted.. um… looking at all the paintings on the walls.”
darcy’s mom’s brow creased. “but, darcy, honey, we don’t have any paintings on our walls. they’re all pictures.”
darcy nodded quickly. “oh yes - that’s what i meant!”
and then she turned and looked down at her plate. oh goodness. it was still there.
“is something a trouble?” asked dad, after a solid 5 minutes of darcy staring down at her plate.
“n-no,” mumbled darcy. “just admiring how well you… cooked this.. egg.”
mum shook her head softly. “i know it’s strange to be having egg for dinner, but they’re going out of date in 20 minutes, and we really don’t want to waste them. so eat up, darcy, because it’s been done really nice for you.”
slowly, darcy picked up her knife and fork, sliding the toast under the egg out so that she could nibble the bread by itself. hopefully, if she stalled long enough, she could avoid having to eat the egg altogether.
it wasn’t that she was a picky eater, no. even though she was only 7 she felt far too mature to be having tantrums over food like that. no, her problem with eggs was something much more grown-up. the thing was, darcy found eggs rather… scary.
yup. scary, there was just something strange about how slimy and bright white they were, like they’d been through a whitening dental toothpaste or something, because darcy, she had SEEN chickens, and none of them were bright white like that, so….
also, there was something so terrifying about the yellow part in the middle. and how it was a different texture, that was scariest of all, to darcy.
she took some deep breaths in and focused on eating her sides. she was already so so proud of herself for facing her fears. ”look at me go,” she was thinking. “eight more minutes and i can throw this egg in the bin, where it belongs.”
slowly, the minutes came and went, and as rick yapped on about his football team, darcy quietly slipped under the table and stealthily picked her way to the bin, where she quickly slid the egg in, trying not to scream from her pure fear.
she managed to make the way back to her seat successfully, and for that, gave herself a mental pat on the back.
today had been a big day.

ੈ✩‧₊˚ Emoji Day ⋆.ೃ࿔
⋆.˚ emojis used ⋮ the french fry, the melting face, and the trumpet!
The Great French Fry Fiasco
It started with a single French fry.
Not the whole carton.
Just one.
I had ordered a large fry from the food truck outside the park and was happily making my way to a bench when disaster struck.
A pigeon landed directly in front of me.
It stared at my fries.
I stared back.
The pigeon took one step closer.
“No,” I warned.
Another step.
“Seriously.”
The pigeon tilted its head.
I sighed and tossed it one fry.
Big mistake.
Within seconds, every pigeon within a five-mile radius appeared from absolutely nowhere.
There were dozens.
Maybe hundreds.
I turned and ran.
“THEY'RE MULTIPLYING!”
People looked up from their picnics as I sprinted across the grass, clutching my fries like they were priceless treasure.
The pigeons were relentless.
One flew so close I swear it made eye contact.
Another landed on my shoulder for half a second before realizing I wasn't giving up the fries willingly.
I was beginning to melt under the pressure.
“Why is this happening to me?” I cried dramatically.
Then I heard it.
BWAAAAA!
A trumpet.
Someone was playing a trumpet.
At first I ignored it.
Then something unbelievable happened.
Every pigeon stopped chasing me.
They all turned toward the sound.
Standing near the fountain was an elderly man in a bright orange Hawaiian shirt enthusiastically playing the world's loudest trumpet.
The pigeons gathered around him in perfect silence.
He finished with one final dramatic note.
“…Thank you,” he said, bowing to his audience.
The pigeons erupted into flapping wings and scattered into the sky.
I slowly approached him.
“Excuse me…”
“Yes?”
“…Did you just save my life with a trumpet?”
He shrugged.
“They like jazz.”
I blinked.
“Pigeons like jazz?”
“Only on Thursdays.”
“It's Thursday?”
“It is.”
I looked at my phone.
It was, in fact, Thursday.
“I have… so many questions.”
The man simply smiled.
“You'll understand someday.”
He packed up his trumpet and walked away as if none of this was unusual.
I finally sat down on the bench.
I looked into my fry container.
After everything I'd been through…
…there were only three fries left.
I sighed.
A tiny shadow appeared beside me.
The very first pigeon had returned.
It looked at me.
Then at the fries.
Then back at me.
I thought for a long moment before handing it one.
It happily waddled away.
Maybe we'd both learned something today.
Never underestimate pigeons…
…or a trumpet player with suspiciously specific knowledge of bird music.

(skull city cat)
Death walked the city.
It was night, and quiet. No one important was dying tonight. Well, not from a human perspective, anyway.
He stopped in an alleyway, crouched. A tiny, sodden heap twitched once and was still.
A cat. Barely more than a kitten, really. There were sores on its paws, and it looked as though it hadn't been too friendly with the stray dogs. He swept the scythe gently, considerately. The cat sat up and blinked at him, mewing in silent confusion.
Meow, Death said.
The cat considered this. Then it trotted off, leaving its little body behind.
Death was about to stand and leave when something caught his… Well, not eye. Call it the socket where an eye should have been but which was, in fact, filled with blue flames.
Behind the small body, something else was moving. Something alive.
He reached for it, feeling soggy fur. (How, exactly, he felt it is not entirely certain. It’s difficult to have nerve endings when you’re a skeleton, but one must manage as best they can.)
It twitched and let out a mew quite similar to the first cat, but this one wasn’t quite dead yet. He thought it might be if he left it for a few minutes.
Death thought about this. Then he began walking away.
In his bony arms, limp and unprotesting, was the kitten.
Sometimes Death found excuses not to do his job. This happened very rarely, and only when he had good reason for it.
For example, the old, scarred alley tom wasn’t technically dead when Death found him, and he still had another life or so left in him.
The kittens someone had attempted to drown — or, at least, suffocate — in the river were still mostly alive by the time he got to them.
He might have cheated a little bit when it came to the cat that a gang of boys had been throwing stones at, but that was all.
The cats, for the most part, seemed perfectly content with their new living situation. There was plenty of food and lots of dark corners to sit and stare at people, only their eyes visible from the shadows.
Death tried not to think about the fact that he now returned on most, if not all, trips out with another one or two. But really, when that lovely fluffy feline had come and rubbed up against him, purring, what was poor Death to do?
He wasn’t going to come home with a cat this time. He really wasn’t.
The kitten blinked up at him, yellow eyes wide, shivering. It was nearly as bony as he was.
Surely there was room for one more.
Just one.

2026-07-16 Daily #7: Emojis (605 words) - Black Square
Random emoji generator gave me: Airplane seat, movie clapperboard, black square
The blue light of the screen assaults my face as I open my phone. It’s 7:19, and I have a single notification. A text from “Unknown Number.” It has no words, only three emojis: Airplane seat. Movie clapperboard. Black square.
I stare at it for several seconds. It’s probably spam like the multiple unknown calls and texts I receive each day, but this message seems different for some reason. Airplane seat. Movie clapperboard. Black square. It gives me a bad feeling for some reason.
Especially because I’m about to get on the plane.
“We will now begin boarding for flight J-731,” says the gate agent over the loudspeaker. “Premium members and first-class passengers may check in.”
I tuck my phone into my pocket and try not to think about the message. I haven’t opened it yet. I struggle to stand up and get my bearings in the mass of bodies suddenly flowing around me as people rush to get in line to board. It’s definitely spam, I think. It’s a coincidence. I’m just a normal person who got a spam message who’s getting on a plane one day. I’m going to get comfy, put in my earbuds, and order a cranberry juice and Biscoff like I always do. Why am I so fixated?
On the plane as the door is about to close, signaling our requirement to turn on airplane mode on our devices, my phone pings. I turn on the screen to see another text message below the first. It’s also from “Unknown Number.” This one has two emojis: Movie clapperboard. Black square.
Now this is terrifying.
I’m in my seat on the airplane, so the airplane emoji went away. Two to go, I think, then mentally scold myself. What are you thinking? It’s just a creepy scammer. Really, it’s nothing.
But for some reason, I don’t order a cranberry juice. A nagging fear in the back of my mind makes me simply clutch my fists and wait out the flight. I forget to turn on my music for the whole ride, and I sit there trying to think about something else.
You’re so paranoid.
I look out the window.
Soon, the flight is over. Nothing unusual happened.
I’m humming the Miley Cyrus song as we hop off the plane at LAX. We descend the stairs in the taxi area, wind suddenly whipping my hair. Because of the obstruction of vision I almost don’t see it: a group of people gathered slightly farther away on the tarmac. Pushing my hair away, I see people holding cameras, someone wearing a wig, and …
A man with a lanyard holding a clapperboard, those plastic squares that someone snaps at the beginning of filming a scene.
I mutter a curse under my breath.
This is a movie crew. They’re filming a movie.
My heart rate increases. I clench my fists.
He snaps the clapperboard closed to mark the start of the take. As he’s walking out of frame, he glances at me, and our eyes meet. I quickly look away.
Fortunately, I’ve got a distraction. I turned my phone off airplane mode when we landed, and I’ve just received a message. But then I realize what’s been happening to me today, and I dread pulling out my phone.
It’s what I thought.
Unknown Number: Black square.
Even though what’s happened to me so far hasn’t put me in danger, I feel a thread of fear travel from my toes to the crown of my head. Because this is the one I can’t guess. I can’t imagine what this one is going to be.
What’s black square?
To be continued … Maybe. :)

Notes: This is a WIP im definitely going to make a lot of changes to. This is also my only soft romance novel idea, and i thought it would be cute to share something a little different than usual.
Daydreamers: The avid reader and the stargazer) // Set in the late 1900s (around 1960-1990) in an alternate reality where technology, trends, societal norms etc advance differently // a city with a sort of mashup aesthetic of a small town and a london-type city. think cobble roads, cute and cozy shops, tall brick buildings, known for its beautiful site-seeing places on the edge of the city: hills you can climb and see a beautiful view from, a “magical” forest etc. they give of a “one with nature” vibe to tourists as shops are known to have vine weaved between the bricks and general inhabitants love to grow plants etc. the outskirts are very small town vibe as they branch of and are less crowded with farms etc. // the fmc is called Lola and lives with her grandparents (who are farmers) on the outskirts of the city. She got homeschooled all her life, and didnt go to uni, so now she just lives primarily of her grandparents money, although she delivers milk from the farm to people and has a part-time job at a cafe. she is a very dreamy girl who is OBSESSED with reading and also loves flower symbolism and writing of a sort (she mostly imagines worlds in her head and sometimes writes them down in her journal, but she's never thought of herself as a writer) she also loves journaling and she is very crafty (her journals are her prized possessions). she has never really thought that her ideas would ever become something big. // the mmc lives in the more central part of the city and is a student at the local university. he is studying astrology and his dream is to become an astrologist, but he doesnt think his dream will come true as he might have to drop out school: he does lots of part time jobs, odd jobs, random hires etc. to save money for his mums hospital treatment (his mum doesnt live in the city) he loves painting as well, and has an interest in politics.

This is the universe of my beloved OCs that I'm hoping to someday turn into a webtoon!! The world is some of the main elements of our world: Foliage (Lilith), animals (Leyla), water/oceans (Brooke), day (Sunny), night (Daisay), light (Emma), dark (Dana), fire (Ashley), and air (William). The main character is Lilith, the princess of the foliage kingdom. She'd been secretly dating the princess of the night kingdom, Daisay, for years. They couldn't let anybody find this out, obviously, since it was considered treason in some kingdoms to interact in ways that are more than professional meetings between them. One day, however, Lilith's younger brother was out foraging near the kingdom border, when he stumbled upon a cliff overlooking a large meadow. He enjoyed the peace briefly, but then spotted a certain older sister and night princess laying together in the fields. He rushed home to tell Lilith's mother, who soon comes upstairs with a plan to eliminate this threat, refusing to hurt her own daughter in the process. Daisay passed away from poisoning in the forest a few days afterwards. Once Lilith got home from ‘school’ that day, her mother was acting quite suspicious of why she was crying so intensely. Lilith realizes it was her mother who'd k!lled Daisay, and she ran away from home in disbelief. This knowledge drives her mad, leading her to manipulate the kingdom leaders with anonymous tips of the foliage kingdom having been the subject of crime in this. The kingdoms took sides, splitting up into a time of war. Lilith harnesses her birth powers of growing plants with the realization that it was manipulating what they did instead of giving them growth. She twists her powers in mind controlling powers with much time of practice. She also, without revealing her identity, leads a rebellion against the leaders to end the war, afterwards taking advantage of her place of power and taking over the entire kingdom, finishing with imprisoning the ultimate leaders. PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU WOULD READ THIS WEBTOON, THANKS!!

Chapter Seven: Respectable. - July 18th, 2026 - 659 words.
On Wednesday, my father asked me to go to the grocery store with him for “quality time”, though I can’t imagine that anyone can successfully bond in the midst of the Whole Foods deli section. Either way, I said yes. Whether this was because of my exceptional levels of boredom, or the fact I felt bad for him, I do not know. Either way, I accompanied him. He must’ve gotten bored of me on the drive though, as the moment we entered the building, he messaged me an image of the list and sent me off to the frozen section. Kill two birds with one stone or whatever. I ended up just walking laps around the grocery store. If there is anything you need to know about my father, it is that he is one of the slowest people you’ll ever meet. I’m sure by the time he makes it to the frozen section I could’ve walked around the place eleven times. In the dairy aisle there was a small family. A mother, a father, and a little girl. She looked to be two or three, maybe four if she was really small for her age. She was wearing a very pretty denim dress with a cardigan over it. They must’ve just come from a photoshoot or something, cause the little girl’s hair was perfectly tied in these tiny braids, and the couple’s outfits matched hers perfectly. Down the cereal aisle was an old man who must’ve been at least 80. He looked quite good for his age though. For some reason I wanted to tell him that, though I assumed it would come off a little passive aggressive. I really did think it though. He had on a brown sweatshirt with some green patterns all over it, as well as a pair of tan jeans. He also wore his hair as a middle part. I don’t believe I have ever seen an old man wear a middle part, though it suited him quite well. He reached for a box of cereal, but it fell on the floor and he leaned over to pick it up without even an expression change. I caught myself wishing to be like him when I am his age, though I don't believe I’ll ever make it there.
Today was the last last day of the month before I go back to school, which I realize makes very little sense. I walked to a coffee shop nearby to work on my Summer reading after we returned from the store. The barista working had these bright blue streaks in her hair that matched perfectly with her earrings, and she seemed to make every drink with this hypnotizing precision. It’s honestly kind of sad when you think about it. She seemed like she had everything all figured out and I can’t even get through the first chapter of this dumb novel. I feel this way a lot. It seems as if everywhere I go there’s someone who has everything all planned out in a neat little binder with backup plans for their backup plans. My mother and father don’t seem to care all that much about my future. I guess that’s a good thing. I’ve been friends with loads of people who say their parents bind them down to “respectable” job choices, whatever that means.
Three hours later and I was only two chapters in. I spent most of my time watching the girl making my drinks before her shift must’ve ended as she was replaced by this tall lanky dude who couldn’t be older than twenty. His hair was in his face and he didn’t make much eye contact. It was quite a stark difference, him and her. She carried herself with this confidence and magnanimity. He seemed confused, as if he didn’t understand where he was, or why he was there. It’s interesting how much you can figure out about someone you don’t know.

Title ~ Sylvia: Survival of Seasons
Sylvia is a young female red fox who has recently left her burrow to find her own territory. She struggles with finding prey since it's winter, and most prey has retreated to their burrows. Not only this, but predators lurk in the mountains surrounding her home, a forest valley. As she hides from danger and tirelessly works to hunt and survive, even more danger threatens not just her, but her beloved home. As winter melts away, humans come to cut down the forest, endangering her, her prey, and her predators as well. She rescues kits from nearly getting crushed from a fallen tree and takes them in, seemingly missing a mother. She hunts and cares for them, and unfortunately loses one, the runt, to an illness. Eventually, as summer rolls around, Sylvia finds a mate to care for the kits, a cross fox named Felix after about three weeks of simultaneously caring for the kits and looking for a mate. Summer is full of caring for the kits, and one even getting lost during a hunting lesson! When fall arrives, at first, it seems like it will be a peaceful season, and at first it is - however, a human captures Sylvia for her fur, and she has to escape, and she does, but not unscathed. She gets a long scar on her shoulder and has a slight limp, but she survives. With resilience and care, her family begins to thrive, and she continues her life, finally at peace. For now…
The novel is split into four parts - Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, each with their own struggles and obstacles to overcome! It will be written to show the wild, chaotic life animals live, and just how gorgeous nature is.

❀ flowers used - wolfsbane (negative emotions), white tulip (forgiveness and healing), sunflower (healing from grief, hope, forgiveness)
Wolfsbane
“Morning, Chloe!” I called, and she had waved back, smiling, leaning on her mailbox as I strolled over to her. I had squinted, trying to see my friend's face through the sunlight. “Ali!” she grinned, tousling my red hair. “College time…” She groaned dramatically, a glint in her eye. “You have no idea how haaaaard my classes are…” We had linked arms, walking together, side by side. We passed a patch of pretty, flowering stalks, each a beautiful, dreamy purple-blue color. I remember bending down to pick it, but Chloe had grabbed me back. “Nope!” she exclaimed, “Those are wolfsbane plants! Poisonous! DO NOT PICK!” She gave an unimpressed look at me, and we had burst into laughter as I spotted the sign right next to the flowers, reading “WOLFSBANE! POISONOUS! DO NOT PICK!”
The day of the fight had started out so well…and two of the worst things ever happened to me - to us.
But I suppose wolfsbane looks pretty and delicate, though it's poisonous. Just like a day can seem perfect, but can end the worst way possible…
I sigh, slumping back into my blue armchair, dappled with early morning sunlight. My gaze slides across the living room until I see it - a picture of me and Chloe, my arm wrapped around hers, her black, shoulder-length hair lit up by sunlight. We were smiling, together…we were friends.
Many a person has called our fight “immature”, said we're too old to give each other the cold shoulder. If only they knew what it was about…
Even more sorrow makes my heart heavy, my shoulders slumping. “Why did I say those things to her…?” I wonder out loud. On cue, my orange tabby kitten Clementine trots over to me, purring as if to comfort me. “Aww, thanks, Clemmie,” I smile, stroking her silky fur. I sigh. Moping wouldn't solve anything, it was a nice weekend morning, and I wasn't wasting that. I hop up from my chair, Clemmie at my heels, and we stroll outside, greeted by cheeps and clucks. I walk over to the coop, a bag of chicken food laying on a fencepost. I reach in, grabbing a handful, and toss it to the birds, who flock over to the feed and begin to peck at it. I toss some more in different spots until everyone gets a meal.
Lord, I miss Chloe.
White Tulip
The doors of the florist slide open, and I walk right in, making a beeline towards the plants and flowers. Clementine. Ate. The. Table. Bouquet. AGAIN. I laugh under my breath, the picture of Clemmie chewing guiltily on a leaf flashing into my mind. I spot a wrap of tulips that catch my eye, each with yellow streaks on the petals and stunningly white. I eye them over, and I smile - perfect.
As I'm about to stroll over to the cashier to pay, something - no, someone - I know enters through the sliding doors.
Chloe.
I recognize that short black hair, her black t-shirt, her smooth pale green jacket. We meet eyes for one, single, second, and my breath catches. In this moment, I don't feel angry, apparently. I…I feel sad. Regretful. I miss her, her smile, her jokes. She messed up, I messed up, but maybe…
No, we can fix this. And we will. I watch her as she walks down the isle, and I turn back to the cashier as she walks out of sight, who's now eyeing me impatiently. He looks about my age, maybe only 18, with pale skin and messy brown hair. “Well?” he mutters in a deadpan voice, giving a small sigh of frustration. Geez, I think, rolling my eyes a bit as I check out the tulips, handing him a crinkled $10 dollar bill that I admit's been sitting in my pocket for about a month.
I wave to the exasperated cashier as I walk out the doors, and I make the shortest eye contact with Chloe. Her hair swishes as she spots me, and I swear, I see her give me the smallest little smile.
Sunflower
It's yet another weekend morning, sun shining on my face and continuing the perfect weather of the week. Clementine purring sleepily in my arms, I jog over to my garden to see a sunflower fully grown, reaching up to the beaming sun. I feel a small tear well in my eyes…she always loved sunflowers.
But for her, I have to move on - I know, deep in my heart, she'd want the best for us…And repair something broken that can. But…I know I can't bring myself to talk to her, I'd probably cry or she'd walk away or…Wait - I could write a letter! I nod, wiping the single, wet tear from my cheek. I walk back into my house, past my living room, and to my desk. A stack of blank papers sit on the wood, and without sitting down, I reach over to my pencil holder, pulling out a pen, and I begin writing…
Dear Chloe,
I know we've been through some hard times, and you probably hate me.
But you know she would want us to be happy, to be together…
Saying goodbye's been hard for both of us, but be grateful we got to hold her hand one last time.
It wasn't your fault or mine.
We simply tried to cover up our grief with anger, and that broke us apart even more.
You know I loved her, I know you loved, and we both still do.
She'd want us to keep our friendship together.
So I'm asking you to forgive me.
I forgive you, and I'm so sorry.
Know that she's looking down on us, and she still loves us no matter what.
Let's fix the broken things that can be repaired before it's too late.
You're my best friend, and I miss you.
~ Ali
Tears are falling down my cheek, but I don't wipe them away. I instead, get up, run outside, and pick the flower off of a sunflower gently. As I sprint back to my desk, still crying quietly, I slip the flower into the envelope, scribbling Chloe's address on the tear-stained envelope.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
My doorbell rings, making Clementine yowl and leap out of my arms, scrambling under the couch. I sigh, shoulders slumping - it's clearly some annoying door-to-door salesperson.
I open the door, irritated - but I'm met with a warm embrace. I stumble back a bit, surprised, but when I realize who it is, I smile, tears dripping down my cheek. “Chloe…!” I exclaim, hugging her tighter than I ever have before.

We were smiling, together…we were friends.

daily 19 :> I used amaranth, honeysuckle, periwinkle, rose, and forget-me-not!
There are two kinds of immortality: the kind that lasts forever, and the kind that's always remembered.
Similar, but not quite the same.
Beatrice placed the amaranths in the vase next to Clem's picture and gave a small smile of both sadness and love.
There were some things that found a center between the two.
Clem, Beatrice often though, was one of them. Her love, at least, was. It was evident in everything Beatrice owned, everything she did. On some days, everything she saw.
Beatrice traced a finger along the photo's frame, catching a bit of dust. She smeared it onto her dress.
“Happy birthday,” Beatrice whispered. “I hope it's going well, wherever you are.”
She could almost hear Clem whispering back with a lighthearted joke or a heartfelt thanks.
Beatrice turned to the kitchen, where a small cup of honeysuckle tea sat cooling. She blew across the top and took a sip, letting the hot liquid sooth her.
Honeysuckle tea was Clem's favorite, and Beatrice always made a cup on her love's birthday.
It flooded her mind with memories, both sad and happy.
Meeting Clem for the first time at the bookshop; fighting for the first time in their bedroom.
Snuggling on the couch and watching the birds; hugging each other tearfully when they seperated for college.
Picking flowers in the meadow outside Clem's old house; crying in the park together when Beatrice's parents passed.
And, of course, saying goodbye at the hospital.
Beatrice swallowed the dregs of her tea and set the cup in the sink.
The memories hurt, but forgetting them would be worse. Forgetting Clem would be forgetting a lifetime of love.
They hurt, but they were worth the pain. She wouldn't choose to lose a single one, even if it meant the pain and the sorrow and the constant void in her life would all be gone.
God, she missed Clem. She missed picking periwinkles and roses from Clem's meadow, naming the birds outside her the window, running their hands along the spines of books and trying to pinpoint the most interesting one.
She missed clasping those soft hands in her own. She missed pressing her lips to Clem's mouth. She missed everything.
Beatrice sighed and turned her body to the door, willing herself to move. She needed groceries today, urgently.
Beatrice hated grocery shopping, and always put it off until the last minute.
Unfortunately, it had to be today that she ran out of milk.
Maybe, though, the grocery store could wait. She needed a moment.
She forwent the door in favor of the couch, nestling in the blankets and giving herself a moment to cry. Not for too long, as crying felt wrong when she had no Clem to cry with, but it was too hard to repress her feelings. Especially today.
After a few minutes, she wiped her face and picked up her phone.
It rang for a few minutes, then stopped.
“Bea!” Clem said. “How are you?”
Beatrice smiled and ran her fingers over the forget-me-not pattern of the couch.

Amina sat at her desk, leaning against the hard back of her wooden chair and running her hands against the smooth pink petals of one of the peach blossoms Eloise had given her. One was tucked behind her ear and the others remained carefully positioned in her hair, right where Eloise had left them.
“Ami, come on! If we don't hurry the ducks will swim away!” Eloise spoke as she ran, encouraging Amina to do the same. In the past Amina would have refused, running was unbecoming of a lady, but the flush on Eloise's cheeks and the intoxicating sparkle in her eyes seemed to propel her legs forward as though they had a mind of her own. She hurried after Eloise, holding her skirt up in her hands and giggling a little as the pair stumbled towards the pond.
“Oh! Look at them, Amina, aren't they darling?”
Amina smiled and brought out a bag of duck food, handing it over to Eloise and watching as her face lit up. Darling they were indeed. She placed the paper bag in between them and crouched down, taking a small handful and holding it out to the little creatures. After a moment a mother duck swam up and began to eat from her palm. She couldn't help it as a smile crinkled the edges of her eyes. She was vaguely aware of Eloise beside her, feeding some other duck from the pond, talking quietly to it. Her smile scrunched the bridge of her nose.
“Ami,” Eloise whispered, “I have the drake and you have the hen, our ducks are a little family.”
Amina hummed in response, a quiet noise that she knew Eloise would recognize as an interested, happy affirmation.
They stayed like that for a while as the ducks nibbled slowly at the food in their palms, eventually the pair of ducks began to move closer together and so too did the women. Amina, tired from the excitement and fully focused on the ducks, was only faintly conscious of the fact that slowly, her head drifted to the side and ended up on Eloise's shoulder. A deep, warm feeling of content filled her and she became even less aware of the fact that the ducks had swum away and Eloise had remained sitting, playing gently with Amina's hair as the sun set.
“Ami?”
She opened her eyes at the familiar nickname, looking up at Eloise sleepily.
“We have to go, it'll be dark soon.”
“mmm I don' want to.”
“I know, but we can't stay here forever.” Eloise said gently.
“Why not? She asked, not really expecting an answer.
”It's not allowed.“ Eloise's always-bright voice sounded resigned and Amina sat up.
”I wish it was.“ She spent a lot of time wishing the things she knew to be true were different.
Eloise gave a deep sigh, and continued to play with Amina's hair. Now more lucid, Amina could see that she was weaving small flowers into her hair. She gave an inquisitive look towards her companion.
”They were falling from the trees, I thought they'd look pretty with the brown in your hair. I was right.“
”What kind are they?“ She asked, trying not to think to hard about Eloise's words.
”Peach blossoms, I think.“ Eloise paused for a moment and stood up. ”There, all done.“ She smiled and held out a hand to help Amina up.
She took it and stood, smiling back.
”Wait, hold on.“ Eloise crouched down again and picked up one of the little pink flowers. She had a look of focus on her face as she brushed aside a lock of light brown hair, tucking it behind Amina's ear. ”There, perfect.“
Her face tingled with the contact and she could not help the flutter of her heart as Eloise's hand ghosted her cheek, nor the flush on her face as her companion called her perfect. She spoke quickly, ”we should go.“
Amina picked up one of the many journals on her desk and opened it to a blank page, placing the peach blossom down on it carefully and closing the book to press and preserve the flower. She stayed there for a moment, still lost in the memory of yesterday. Her eyes wandered the desk, looking at the pens, the pots of ink, the dog-eared, pigment stained journals stacked up far to high, the small pot of wilting yarrow. Oh, she should probably fix that. She stood and walked towards her open window, grabbing a pair of shears from the sill and leaning out to cut flowers from the window box she'd installed long ago. She cut a small bouquet of ambrosia with a practiced hand and walked back over towards the vase, replacing the yarrow with her fresh flowers. Then, almost as an impulse, she took the flower behind her ear and added it to the vase. She smiled and whispered to herself. ”There, perfect."
