I think the current system works really well and if you ever need more .json simply split the project into two projects
also you're going to miss out on learning really creative compression techniques if for example you're making a bad apple project

The only thing I can think of is making a user copy and paste a bunch of important files into lists, and that makes it incredibly annoying to set up.

I think the current system works really well and if you ever need more .json simply split the project into two projectsit's true that a platformer can easily be split up, but a roguelike game like Monster World needs Every single item and card in all projects, so it will not help that much. I think even with compression a 10Mb limit would be better.

I think the current system works really well and if you ever need more .json simply split the project into two projectsThat won't work for 3D projects, which are notorious for hitting the limit. You are right that compression techniques can be used to slim down project size, but that's often not enough.

oh oknow that i think about it, this json limit has an effect on me too. i tried to upload an animation with too many frames and it refreshed the page every attempt without saving the work. That is not caused by the JSON limit, it happens when your computer's graphics RAM is full (Scratch doesn't know which costume the project will use next, so tries to keep all of them loaded)

Exactly. I am trying to make a racing game with a ton of tracks, but having just four hit the limit. If I could compress those to 50% of their original size, I can still only fit 8 tracks.I think the current system works really well and if you ever need more .json simply split the project into two projectsThat won't work for 3D projects, which are notorious for hitting the limit. Support (not sure if I did already), although instead of increasing it to 10 MB, it would be cool if it just measured the actual compressed space it takes up in the project file instead, so that it would allow for much bigger projects to be created while preventing the project files from getting excessively big.

I strongly support an increase to 10MB or more. I used to work on a huge project. I felt really proud for almost reaching my first, fully functioning game. Not knowing there was a limit. When I was ready to do the finishing touch, I realized that scratch just won't let me do it. I was outraged. I lost all hope for my game and I gave up on the project. I lost hope for scratch and tried to give up scratch. Then, I saw this discussion. It was the last hope for me. Maybe no one will read this. It would be just another common blog. However, I hope that someone, anyone, will read this and realize how important increasing the limit is and wright his own blog. And someone else reads that and writes another one. Eventually, our voices will be too big to ignore and scratch will increase the Json limit!

The 5Mb project.json limit should be increased
That would be REALLY helpful, I don't really make huge projects but I want to see games like Monster World actually reach their full version. If the scratch team has reasons why they can't increase the size limit to 10MB then I hope they at least let us know so we can either rest with the Truth or help figure out a solution.

There are projects that can't be finished because of this limit, and I know how disappointing that is for the developers of those projects. It forces them to either abandon the project, or share the .sb3 somewhere else, which is really annoying.

That's so true! Many developers are hitting this ceiling hard. in examples of monster world, he made a specific project to talk about what was left, and even if he did finish it he could not share it. just increasing this to 10 MB would make so many more high quality projects, and when a new user started making a larger game, he could actually share it so others can see his work.

I agree , I know that if I want to make a boss rush , because of the limit , I think I could only put 5 bosses that is at my guess , not enoughThat would be REALLY helpful, I don't really make huge projects but I want to see games like Monster World actually reach their full version. Very support. I was once doing anything art project with the rainbow, one sprite, one costume, and I kid you not, it went past the limit and I had to do it on the offline version, which sucks on tablet. I suppose you could save stuff on coding by using costumes with a bunch of colours, decoding, then making a script to run the decoded code.

Fun Fact: I did algebra 1 in 7th grade.this is off-topic but can you remember if they taught you anything about imaginary numbers in that first course

This is already an active problem in my sb series. 0-o Like if I create more of the map, it makes at least 1mb to the project which is already at 5 mb. I hope they fix this.
